i have recently seen Apistogramma cf payaminonis
on a selling list... this fish is completely new to me,
and nobody has ever imported it to Hong Kong yet.
All the information i have comes from books.
So, has somebody here kept it before? If yes, i would
like to know a bit more about them? any sharings
will be most appreciated. Thanks much.
(At the moment, i just think of it as the A. caca or
A. sp. Black Chin kind of species... :)

Moreover, will there be any chance for us to get the
A. personata now? This fish is very interesting while it's not
yet found in the hobby...

I don't know on which list you found this name. If you look in Koslowski (2002) & the DATZ book, you will find A. cf. payaminonis (Kästner). This fish was found by Kästner in a shipment of fish exported out of Manaus, Brazil. There are minor differences between Kästner's fish and the A. payaminonis from Ecuador. It is unlikely that these fish originated in Brazil, but were probably collected in the boundary streams between Colombia & Brazil. This fish is now lost.

When A. sp. Zwilling/Twin was first imported by Southern Aquatics, Mike Jacobs asked me to identify it. I even talked with the Peruvian exporter & learned where the fish was collected. Based on the dark markings, particularly the markings on the caudal peduncle, and its collecting site I considered it closely related to A. payaminonis although it is visually similar to A. nijsseni. I suggested Mike name it A. cf. payaminonis from Peru.

Thanks Mike. I have seen this fish in the selling list of basilaqua in Taiwan...
There is no photo so i have no way to know if it's the real one or not.
... i now tend to think that the fish is probably A. sp. Zwilling (which i kept before and it's not interesting to me now :)

If forgot to mention that A. personata has never been commercially imported into the hobby. It must be rare in the wild or we have not found their primary biotope yet. The few that have been collected by hobbyists were A. cf. personata (A172) from the Colombian part of the Rio Uaupés (Río Vaupes) near Mitú.
