Hi all!

I have been trying to read up a. Eunotus these last few days.
Seeing the habitat and other fish from some of the same waters i was of the impression that it was a blackwater or very close to blackwater species, so when I read on aquarium glaser, that it liked more alkaline water with little to none humic substance, I was quite surprised.

Here is the glaser link.

Does anybody here have any experience with this species?

I have found some old threads, with some beautiful fish pictured.

Just a minor correction; the link you provided indicated it has been spawned in alkaline water but i believe it prefers acidic water just not the extreme of some other species. At least that was my take of the text.

This is not the holotype form, but a related form. The holotype form has'nt been imported since the early 1980's (Pink Apisto). Most related forms from the Ucayali are rather tolerant of water values.

I currently keep A. Eunotus (orangeschwanz) and I find that they do very well in my tap water (I live in Toronto, Ontario) and are very prolific. Little to no humic acid is needed to spawn them. I've had them spawn in straight tap water. The water I use is by no means liquid cement, but it's hard enough that most apistos wouldn't have any chance rearing young

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
