Hi Steve, nice pretty fish..Are you sure the parent male was wildcaught?? the fish pictured looks like a domestic 'Orange flash' a line bred colour morph..

I have just brought in a box of wild cacatuoides with several very yellow individuals in there, they mainly show the yellow on the body and not the fins, even the brightest wild fish is no where near as colourful as your fish.

If its a certain wild male and domestic red female then its interesting to reach that stage within one spawn..I have both in my fishroom and may try the cross myself..

These are typical freshly imported wild Apistogramma cacatuoides..No where near as colourful as the potential F1 you have pictured.

Sorry mate i didnt recognise you under a different alias!!! Good to see you on here!

Thats a very nice, bright fish and a very interesting colour for a wild/domestic spawn.. The female from myself was pure red strain and as far as im aware did not have any hidden genetics?? They breed 100% true when spawned together.

My mate Dave is also performing plenty of wild/domestic crosses and i will be doing doing the same but on a limited basis(Ive bred cacs for many years and if something else comes up the cacs are the first to loose their tank:redface:)..I thing we should start seeing some interesting results pretty soon..

Any pics of the parents or any more of the fish pictured in the first thread?? Id be interested to hear more about this cross.

Speak soon mate, Ste

There are only a few honest and knowlegable Apisto dealers in the UK..You already know who we are.. Many others think they can make a quick pound by selling fish they know nothing about!!

Apistogramma more than almost any other fish need someone knowlegable selling them, if the retailer does not know his stock then what chance has the buyer got?? When looking at buying breeding pairs i always ask for pictures of the parents with fry, i always supply such pictures with my pairs and its a nice way to sell the fish, a unscrupulous dealer out to make a quick pound will pair up any old fish, quite often like yours they even turn out to be the same sex!!! Apistogramma are a amazing group of fish but ive never yet found a species that spawns in a male/male family!!!!!

Ill look forward to some pics of the Regani..I cant believe they are pairing up already!!! Superb news.
