Apisto Males die after breeding

I have had 3 instances (2 Cacs and an Inca) that after they have breed a few times (2 or 3 times), they seemed to have withered and died. Water quality is great and all the other inhabitants are fine. In fact the female apistos are just fine and have gone on living.... Is this normal?

No, not unless they are old fish (3+ years) . The elevated hormones and aggression associated with breeding do put some stress on the body and may weaken the immune system, so they may become more susceptible to disease during and soon after breeding.
