I ordered two apistogramma cacatuoides females a while ago and these two fish arrived. They are now around 4cm and the first one does not look like a female and I am not sure that they are apistogramma cacatuoides. Their fins colors are different than I was expecting. Can anyone identify them for me? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Do I need to separate them or will they cohabitate peacefully in the same tank? This tank is 112 liter tank but I have another 80 liter tank in the basement.

I would actually have quarantined them. They both look like a bit thin, which can be a sign of inner parasites. As long as they are in that state they are unlikely to be a bother to each other, but that may change when they are treated, because just by the head and fin shapes both species become quite similar with age. Although, the proespective A. baenschi looks a lot like a female.

Female baenschi with an orange marginal band?
