Do you mean in the wild? A. agassizii is common in the wild covering many tributories in the Amazon with various color morphs.

Ah, you've been looking at Tom's website. Tom and I collected that specimen near Tamshiyacu, Peru in 2008. It was the only specimen among a dozen or so A. agassizii that had the 'butterfly' caudal fin. My guess is that the pattern was caused by the fin being damaged and later re-growth turned red due to food or water conditions. My guess is that you'll almost never see this pattern again, and if you do it won't appear in the offspring. Still it was a very pretty fish. Now I only wish we could have found more Pastels in the area last fall.
