A. panduro can be very prolific - 50-100 fry. I wouln't worry about the size of your spawn. As the pair matures and learns how to take care of their offspring, the numbers will increase. How long the fry can stay with the parents depends on a lot of factors - size of the aquarium, presence of dither/target/predator fish, feeding & water conditions, but mostly the desire of the parent to breed again. When they go through courting behavior again, it is time to remove the fry. This usually occurs after about 2 - 4 weeks.

Hi there,

Just to back up Mike's comments. My breeding pairs held in 18" cubes will consistently produce 30 to 40 fry, On the occasions I have had them in a 36"x18" (floor dimensions) tank I've had in excess of 100 fry.

tanx guys :)

the tank is a 20 gal with no other occupants except maybe a little pleco.

This is actually the second successful spawn from the pair, last time they spawned the tank was filled with other inhabitants. I removed all other occupants when i noticed 5 * 1/4" fry. They must have been in there a while as i could see their little stripes. Last week the older fry disappeared and the parents started their courtship again. I thought perhaps the parents cleaned house before breeding again, thank you Mike Wise for confirming my theory ;)

KtttK, thank you, i think she is stunning, my pride and joy :) The male is awesome too but he's too shy to get his picture taken :)
