My male Apistogramma has developed a protruding jaw, it looks overly extended from the top. And from the front I can see the translucent membrane with the dark bone (tissue) down the middle. Not sure what to make of it.
However, he is behaving normally and eats normally.
Although I've been registered here for quite a while and I've been amazed by Apistogramma sp. for even longer, I never really kept them until this past August where I purchased my first pair of Apistogramma elizabethae 'Super Red'. I know I took a huge risk by purchasing such a difficult species...
It is really difficult to quality Rams locally, most are those awfully selectively bred strains that do not have the same beauty as the 'classic' German Blue Ram. Quality Rams, IMO, should look like this: http://www.rosehawke.com/photos/rams.jpg . Anyone know where to find Rams like these either...
I heard that Apisto's will develop extraordinary finnage when living in soft water, but my question is..Do they have to be raised in soft water as juveniles to get them or will they still develop them as adults?
I really like Apisto's...and it's really hard to just stick with one species. But why is it bad to have two different species in a tank? Is it because of cross-breeding or just aggression problems? Is their a gallon-rule for how many different Apisto's you can keep?

I wanted to ask if I could use Glosso in my tank, or do Apisto's need to feel secure by having "grass-like" plants? Should I use a mix of Lilaeopsis brasiliensisis and Micro Echinodorus tenellus instead of Glosso?
