Pelvicachromis sp. aff. pulcher - p. "Sacrimontis" - Advise?

I've had good luck with Seachem Discus Buffer ph5.0. It both adjusts pH to 5.8-6.8 and softens water by precipitating calcium and magnesium.... I use it in conjunction with a water softening pillow in my 10 gallon breeder. I live in a relatively small loft apartment, so don't have room for an...

Pelvicachromis sp. aff. pulcher - p. "Sacrimontis" - Advise?

They don't seem to be too picky about pH, although I once triggered a pair of regular old pelvicachromis pulcher to spawn by doing a 20% water change with RO water, lowering the pH from about 7.0 to 6.8 and dramatically reducing my hardness. I've not been brave enough to deal with pH ranges in...

    L. meleagris and L. speciosus... same?

I recently picked up a trio of Lamprologus meleagris from my lfs. I've been doing some research, and it seems like meleagris and speciosus might be the same fish? It's so confusing to keep up with constantly changing taxonomy, I was wondering if anyone knew if they were the same species, or are...

Pelvicachromis sp. aff. pulcher - p. "Sacrimontis" - Advise?

Thanks Randall! I gave it another try. I just started a Tang. Shellie tank in a 20g Long that I picked up for a steal. Just to be safe, on top of using BioSpira I also filled up a media bag with gravel from another of my established tanks, and some texas holy rock from my krib tank. I...

Returning to fishkeeping after a long while... love dwarf's!

Unfortunately the eggs are gone, I don't know if the parents ate them (this might be there first spawn, not sure) or if another fish ate them. Hopefully they spawn again soon, I've heard about every 2 months is average but since this one didn't hatch hoping it will be sooner!

Returning to fishkeeping after a long while... love dwarf's!

This morning I woke up and all the fish in the tnak were huddling on the other side. I checked the roof of the cave, and theirs a TON of eggs! I tried counting them, but there were way too many. They seem to be doing a good job protecting them, the female is poking her head out of the cave...

Returning to fishkeeping after a long while... love dwarf's!

That's exactly where I got them! Aquarium Adventures, the first female I bought died when my heater got stuck 'on' and the temp rose to 90F before I noticed. I saw the pair in the show tank, well at least the female... I didn't see the male in there. I want the whole tank! It's beautiful. I...

Pelvicachromis sp. aff. pulcher - p. "Sacrimontis" - Advise?

Randall, Have you had good luck with bio spira? I used it in my 10 gallon at work, and still had ammonia and nitrite readings... I followed the directions on the package adding a 1oz packet that is supposed to treat up to 30 gallons. Someone suggested that you are supposed to continually add it?

Pelvicachromis sp. aff. pulcher - p. "Sacrimontis" - Advise?

I probably won't mix them then. I may short term have to use a tank divider so I have some place to stick these little guys for a couple of days.

Pelvicachromis sp. aff. pulcher - p. "Sacrimontis" - Advise?

I found someone in my local area with 6 young Giant Krib's. I'm not sure where I'm going to put them yet, but it's so difficult to find interesting species in my area so I can't say no! How large of a tank would everyone recomend for these guys? I could make some room in my 10 gallon at...

Returning to fishkeeping after a long while... love dwarf's!

Thanks everyone. I'm going to stick with just the p. pulcher, and maybe a few well chosen community fish in the 30 gal. I picked up another female today, it's amazing how much more outgoing the male is. At first I was a little worried, the male seemed agressive towards the female. They...

Returning to fishkeeping after a long while... love dwarf's!

Let me apologize for the long post... rather give too much info I guess than not enough. I'm returning to fishkeeping for the first time in about 10 years. When I was in highschool I had a few tanks, a couple community tanks and a saltwater. I recently started a 30 gallon at home and a 10...
