Hemichromis stellifer wild pair with fry

Thanks! These 2 had already paired up before I got them, perhaps this is why they are so peaceful. No aggression at all. I removed most of the fry today to raise separately, although the parents had shown no aggression towards the fry either. You should try again sometime if you see a nice pair...

Benitochromis nigrodorsalis "Moliwe color form" spawning

Finally, got fry from the other pair. The male and female shared mouthbrooding duties equally, but she became a bit aggresive 2 days ago so I removed her. Here is the male caring for and protecting the brood: This is such a beautiful species, unfortunately the light in this tank really...

Benitochromis nigrodorsalis "Moliwe color form" spawning

Hi all, I was very lucky last night to witness the first spawning of this young wild pair. They had every possible choice of spawning sites (pebbles, caves, bogwood, plants) in this set-up and selected a flat large stone. The first two video's were taken whilst the female was laying the eggs and...

    Id query - regani complex?

Thanks again Mike. What confuses me is that it has a considerably smaller caudal spot [when it appears - sometimes...:):)] - than the 'Masken' specimens I've seen on several occasions before. Also, the vertical striping in the tailfin is throughout and obvious as in A. regani and closely related...

    Id query - regani complex?

Hi Mike, yes it's all exactly the same fish (but in different moods)... please let me know if you need additional pictures of a specific feature... thanks [Btw there's no doubt it's wild caught as it arrived in the same box as a stunning batch of A. eremnopyge from a reputable supplier in Peru]

    Id query - regani complex?

Hi all, found two contaminants in a shipment of A. eremnopyge from Peru. Here are some initial pictures - first day settling in so quite dull and bad pics for now - will update when I manage to take some better photo's in better light. Usually there are about 4 abdominal lines below the lateral...

    ID Apistogramma viejita?

On Tom C's site, there's another picture of what appears to be a wild A. viejita specimen, apparently imported as a contaminant (note the dark blotch - a dark marking - again): http://apisto.sites.no/page.aspx?pageid=53 Very interesting! My F1's looked exactly like that when displaying, but...

    ID Apistogramma viejita?

    ID Apistogramma viejita?

Interesting to come across this id dilemma again. A few years ago I also posted a pic of my wild A. 'viejita' male on here - here is the thread: http://www.apistogramma.com/forum/index.php?threads/a-viejita-or-macmasteri-please-help.10242/ I had only one male and three females (from the same...

    Apistogramma mendezi ID question

Hi all, just an update here: I was lucky enough to source two A. mendezi long-stripes A222 (Orange) females through a good contact in the UK (see pics of the male of this species earlier in this thread)... So fingers crossed I may get some fry of this highly desirable colourful variant of A...

Wondering what apisto hybrids people have come accross

Just some last links in an attempt to simplify this debate: the problems caused by hybridisation: http://www.sydneycichlid.com/cichlid-hybrids.htm an example of what selective inbreeding can do in a species...
