Should Apisto Agassizii be kept in threes?

Hi all, Two females has always been a recipe for disaster with me as well. It will tell us a lot more <"https://apistogramma.com/forum/threads/sexing-please.23154/#post-107826">. cheers Darrel

Is my male safe in a breeding tank?

Hi all, I have Malaysian Trumpet Snail (Melanoides tuberculata) in all my tanks where the water is hard enough for them. I use very fine "play sand" and I've never had any problem with it <"https://apistogramma.com/forum/threads/hth-pool-filter-sand-for-agassizii.25838/#post-128536">. cheers...

    Atahualpa hiding

Hi all, That one. It isn't a big enough floor area even for a male and femal. cheers Darrel

    question on keri tetra

Hi all, I haven't kept Dicrossus filamentosus for a long time, but I think they are a black water fish? This was a thread from 2012 <"https://apistogramma.com/forum/threads/1st-d-maculatus-spawn.12389/#post-69282">. cheers Darrel

    question on keri tetra

Hi all, I managed to bloat my pair of Dicrossus maculatus. I think they need fairly careful feeding as adults. Cheers Darrel

    question on keri tetra

Hi all, Black water fish are very prone to infection if kept in harder water without tannins etc. They also can eat themselves to death if overfed. Yes, that is the point, clear water has plenty of food available, but black water is food poor and the fish that live there are extremely...

    question on keri tetra

Hi all, Blackwater fish are often difficult to keep long term, but Mike is right feeding them isn't usually a problem, as they eat whatever they can fit in their mouths. cheers Darrel

Apistogramma piaroa A165 not doing well

Hi all, You don't need that much dGH, a lot of plants will get by on "petrol fumes". Have a look at the "Duckweed Index", it is a technique for adding nutrients when the plants need them, rather than by rote. Cheers Darrel

Apistogramma piaroa A165 not doing well

Hi all, Is there a reason for having that much dGH? What @MacZ says. cheers Darrel

question on water hardness and leaching

Hi all, You don't need to, that is an incredibly small amount of ions, so they are both (dGH & dKH) less than one. Conductivity is temperature dependent as well, higher temperatures cause increased electrical activity. Likely. That is it, it is a tiny addition of ions. cheers Darrel

    apistogramma agassizii tank mates

Hi all, An advantage of a floating plant is that they always have access to atmospheric CO2 <"https://gml.noaa.gov/ccgg/trends/"> and they have <"relatively little structural tissue">, so that they can respond to changes in nutrient levels relatively quickly. Pistia stratiotes ("Water...

    apistogramma agassizii tank mates

Hi all, It is not just a "pretty face" you can use it as indication of nutrient levels in your tank as well, have a look at: <"https://www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/what-is-the-“duckweed-index”-all-about.73647/">. Amazon Frogbit (Limnobium (Hydrocharis) laevigatum) is actually my "Duckweed" of...

    apistogramma agassizii tank mates

Hi all, You should find it propagates pretty readily, there are images in @Tom C 's article: "Collecting in Pebas, Río Orosa and Río Shishita 2008" - <"https://www.tomc.no/page.aspx?PageId=64">. cheers Darrel

    apistogramma agassizii tank mates

Hi all, Water Lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) is biotope appropriate. I think it depends on your sense of scale, I see the riverine and "flooded forest" trees as amphibious plants. Cheers Darrel

    apistogramma agassizii tank mates

Hi all, I'm not trying to be funny, but that is a fraction of the plants you need. The more cover you have the happier the fish will be. They don't need to be planted plants, a lot of make use of floating plants. cheers Darrel

question on water hardness and leaching

Hi all, Those are very low values, you basically have very few ions of any description. The actual ppm TDS value would be higher, but <"difficult to measure">. cheers Darrel

Can my two different apistos thrive together?

Hi all, I had mine in a 2' (60 cm) tank with Black-neon Tetra (H. herbertaxelrodi) that worked fine, but I keep <"very weedy"> tanks <"https://apistogramma.com/forum/threads/cory-and-apistogramma.21451/#post-100781">. The only catfish I've had in the tanks with successfully breeding...

Can my two different apistos thrive together?

Hi all, Not really. That is a lot of fish. The Ancistrus will be active at night and disturb your cichlids. The problem with the Corydoras spp. is really if your cichlids breed, but you may find problems with harassment even when they aren't breeding. Other bottom dwelling fish rarely go well...

Can my two different apistos thrive together?

Hi all, Welcome to Apistogramma.com, this is going to sound a bit negative, but you obviously love your fish and this will save a lot of heart-ache in the longer term. Can you re-home the T-bar Cichlids (Amatitlania sajica)? They aren't really suitable tank mates as they grow and the same...
