    Apisto Pandurini deformity?

Thanks for the replies, sorry about the lateness of mine. I'll have a look to see what my LFS has for medications and give that a try before I give up on those two fish. The problem is definatly related to the swim bladder, would parasites cause problems with the swim bladder?

    Apisto Pandurini deformity?

That picture is distorted as the camera was well to the right of the fish. The fish does look kinda thin in the picture, but both this one and the other have very healthy appetites and she's not as thin as she looks in the picture. I suspect that tjudys theory might be correct. If it...

    Apisto Pandurini deformity?

I bought 6 young Apisto Pandurinis at the local fish auction for just $16 Canadian (~11 USD), the largest being about a 1/2 inch. Two of them seem to swim around on the substrate. They are active and eating well like the rest, but can't seem to float in the water. Is this some kind of...

    Parents and Fry pics (cacatuoides)

That just doesn't sound right  Seriously though is that bad? I've heard a little inbreeding doesn't hurt the stock. The pair I have right now were also purchased together and are probably siblings.

    Parents and Fry pics (cacatuoides)

Thanks, I hope they also spawn again in the future. When the fry grows up some more do you think the LFS will take in just the one fish? I know they would probably prefer to get a batch at once.

    Parents and Fry pics (cacatuoides)

I just wanted to thank you guys for helping me choose on some Cacatuoides for my tank. They're very interesting to watch and have bred several times. I finally have had some fry and one of them has survived to a size (~1/4 inch) and is no longer looked upon as food. Here is a blurry pic...

Not sure what's happening to eggs

Actually I just saw a picture of a coconut shell cut in half with a small opening that looks really nice. I have heard of this idea before, but in this picture it was covered with Java Moss which makes it look so much better. I might give that a try.

Not sure what's happening to eggs

Thanks. The parents have laid eggs about 4 times since I've had them. Hopefully they'll improve with future batches. If not maybe I'll put a small clay pot in the tank. Providing a more secure location for the eggs might reduce the parents stress and stop them from eating the eggs (if...

    Breeding Cacatuoides questions

My female cac started laying eggs the second day in the aquarium, and she is only about 1" long. I've yet to see any baby fry though :(

Not sure what's happening to eggs

Hi everyone, I have a pair of Cacatoides in a 20 gallon long tank. Their tankmates are some otos, 2 SAEs and some Harlequin Rasboras. Every 2 or 3 weeks the female lays a new batch of eggs that seem to disappear several days later. The Ph is usually about 7.0-7.2, Kh 4.5 and temp ~79 F...

New to Apistos: Cacatuoides in 20g long

Thanks for the replies Thanks for the replies, I guess I'll go with 3 cacatuoides and some dithers once the tank is ready. Would you happen to know how long they live?

New to Apistos: Cacatuoides in 20g long

I'm new to Apistos, I just got a 20 gallon long tank and am considering putting some cacatuoides in. As there is quite a bit of ground space (30*12") in a 20 gallon could I put 1 or 2 males and twice as many females, or is this too much for the territory. I understand cacatuoides are some of...
