Hi Guys,
tried all of the above and unfortunately nothing worked, tried the antibiotics, sulfa etc. Stopped the fin rot for a day or two, then it came back again. I have lost most of the fish that had it to this, it took some time, tried the remedies repeatly.
Some of the fish kept eating...
re: removing fry
I agree with the above posts the longer the better. However I usually remove my males as soon as the fry are seen as free swimming or sometimes earlier. The reason , the females will go out of their ways to keep the males at a distance, I have lost numrous males that were...
I move my females as soon as the fry are free swimming and eating baby brine shrimp.
I have found in some instances when the females are ready to spawn again, 2-3 weeks, if they fry are not removed or the female removed, she will see her earlier fry as a threat to the new eggs and eat the...
re, where to buy
Aquabid is an ideal place,
the prices on there reflect most of the on-line sellers.
Most of the on-line sellers of Apisto's are the ones listing on Aquabid.
You may get the odd fish on Aquabid for less than on the websites.
Thanks
John
frozen BBS
Hi,
I have frozen baby brine as a backup for when a hatcher goes bad, new bs eggs won't hatch etc. when you have fry you need a back up.
I just net out my baby brine as usual and then put them in fresh water and freeze them in ice cube containers, when I need them I throw in an...
garlic powder
It looks like many of you have lots of reading to do and conventions to attend. I have read about garlic being used to remove many ailments in the aquarium, there are many foods adding it as an additive.
This summer I attended the ACA convention and Jack Wattley held a talk...
marketing or not.
I have heard the exact opposite, they had a much better harvest this year and the quality of what they harvested is much higher than the last 4 years.
Doesn't heard to check.
Brine Shrimp Direct 15.65 / lb 70% - these have been hatching in the 90% range why pay $29

hatch rates
First of all lets get rid of the a,b,c grade system.
Over the last few years sellers of eggs have manipulated this to the hilt. At one point 80% hatch ratio eggs were being called Grade "A" Eggs and "C" eggs were 65%. Some suppliers differ.
The correct method is 240,000 naupli...
cyclop eeze
HI,
funny that you had that result with the cyclop eeze, all my fry apistos love the stuff, not a speck of it gets to the bottom of the tank. As a matter of fact all my fish eat it readily, even ones that typically would only eat live foods. Never had a pollution problem . If...
inbreeding
Hi Eva,
With the proper amount of culling inbreeding should not be an issue for a few generations. However, it does not hurt to add new blood to your bloodlines every couple of generations. Another method used by many guppy breeders is to get a spawn, split them( A line & B...
Hi Rick,
First check his hours - I have heard quite a few complaints of people showing up there when he is supposed to be open, to be in front of a closed door.
I have been in there several times and he does have some apisto's, he had viettje red- nice fish( I bought some). He now has some...
Neil,
Keeping them in the fridge with daily opening could degrade them. I have kept them in my fish room for a view days and the humidity degraded my hatch by more than 50% in a matter of several days.
Currently I place the eggs straight from the freezer into the hatching jar, and they...
confused
Mordor,
In your original post you stated that the production dropped from 15 gallons to 3 gpd, in 3-5 weeks. If your carbon is lasting 8 weeks this was confusing. You can buy individual inline single filters that can be put before your carbon one, these are available at Walmart...
RO unit
Dear Mordor,
I lived out in the country with well water for a few years, I purchased a 35 gallon per day spectrapure unit, while living there a unit would have lasted me a couple of months. Stalagmites would form on my heaters in the tank that is how mineralized the water was. Since...
BS eggs
There could be numerous factors involved. The eggs are old and not stored properly. They may have not been an ideal type of egg to begin with. Salinity may not be ideal for hatching, with a high salinity most eggs will refuse to hatch. Over the last few years the eggs seem to hatch...
F ?
That is the way it seems to be every where in the fish hobby except for cichlid fanciers.
I was let to believe that among cichlid keepers F0 stands for the first generation produced from wild fish, every other fishkeeper that are non-cichlid people refer to first generation from wild fish...
Wild Ram
If you are willing to take a drive up to Rochester NY, ADD Aquatics had wild rams in last week. However he is wholesale only.
Some of the stores up in Northern NY have his stock. I have also seen wild rams here at Big Als in Mississauga, ON, Canada. So if you want to travel they are...
Starter foods
The best choice is baby brine, If you do not want to hatch shrimp better forget breeding in my opinion.
However there is a couple of foods that are available Cyclop-eeze is a freeze dried food that works extremely well with non-finicky eaters. You could grind up some flake foods...
