    Suggestions on 130L tank mates

I’ve kept Anomalochromis thomasi with Enigmatochromis lucanusi and Nanochromis parilus; they should most likely work with common kribs as well.

    breeding?

Unfortunately, no. The pair spawned several more times, and every time fungused eggs were expelled from the cave. They’re now over 2.5 years old and have stopped spawning altogether. I hope you have better luck breeding yours.

Kribs With Red vs Purple Belly

Pelvicachromis kribensis and P. roloffi females have purple bellies. P. silviae, P. pulcher and P. sacrimontis females all have red bellies.

Pair of Apisto in a 25L?

Badis badis would work. I kept and bred them in a 5 gallon. They’re very cichlid-like.

    A. cf. Ortega or just A. ortegai?

They’re ortegai, no cf necessary. Pebas’ fins have a completely different coloration. My avatar is an ortegai.

    ID please

Looks exactly like my male Apistogramma cf. ortegai Pebas, which was sold to me as ortegai Papagei.

    Masculine female

Here’s a photo of the same female taken last December. Her body form is still recognizably female, only her color has deepened.

    Masculine female

My female A. cf. ortegai's coloration has become more vivid recently, almost approaching that of the male's. I've had them for almost a year, and they've bred for me, but not for quite some time. Are they past their prime?

    Most metallic blue Apistogramma

Apistogramma panduro males are a beautiful metallic silver-blue. Nannacara anomala males are more of a metallic green.

    L. curviceps showing a bit of colour

I can’t say with certainty that it applies to all morphs, but this was the case with all the variants I’ve kept over the years.

    L. curviceps showing a bit of colour

There's no need to count scales. Besides being slimmer than the stockier L. dorsigera, L. curviceps always have a white border on the rear of their dorsal fins; the border on dorsigera is red throughout its length. This is apparent even in young specimens - the fish in the photo was about 1.5...

    L. curviceps showing a bit of colour

Nice fish, but they’re Laetacara dorsigera, not curviceps.

    Apistogramma ortegai or cf. ortegai.

Thanks, I thought as much. Sigh.

    Apistogramma ortegai or cf. ortegai.

I purchased this pair as Apistogramma ortegai Papagei, but now that they've matured I suspect that they're not. The male looks nothing like my avatar, which most definitely IS the Papagei form.

What west african tankmates are possible?

I know that they can’t be considered big killies, but I’ve been keeping Epiplatys dageti Monroviae with Anomalochromis thomasi and Enigmatochromis lucanusi without any problems. The killies stay near the surface out of the cichlid‘s way, and both the killies and the cichlids produce fry which...

    Need ID for this pair

Beautiful pair of Apistogramma ortegai! Corydoras cats never learn not to intrude into cichlid‘s breeding territories. They’ll blunder into the territory, get chased away, and immediately swim back towards the cichlids. I’ve successfully used cardinal tetras as dithers for A. ortegai. I didn’t...

    Tilapia ruweti

Is this species still in the hobby? I’d love to get a hold of a pair.

    Dicrossus maculatus sexing

In my experience if there is a trace of a pattern on the caudal fin in young fish they always turn out to be males. Female D. maculatus develop red anal fins, as opposed to D. filamentosus, which have red ventrals.

    Agassizii infertility?

My tap water is very soft - 31 ppm TDS. I've bred many species of Apistogramma without encountering this problem. The only similar case was a pair of A. macmaster which never produced fry, former inhabitants of the same tank the agassizii are living in now. This tank, unlike any of my others...
