Is there an automated spam filter or check that can be installed? Tbh I know nothing about the technical side of forums but if there is such a thing it would probably make life much easier for Mike. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Ivanacara adoketa fighting

Good and bad news. The good news is that the male and female are getting along once again. the bad news is that the female apparently ate all the eggs - I witnessed her eating a few of them the other night and the next morning they were all gone. I assume that they became infected by fungi or...

    Ivanacara adoketa fighting

Mystery solved. After coming home from work today this is what I found: Full Tank Shot: My adoketa had finally spawned and the female was guarding her eggs against the male! Until now I had no idea that I. adoketa were not biparental. The spawn looks fairly small (I counted around...

    Ivanacara adoketa fighting

Interestingly, one of the videos that automatically popped up after watching my video similarly showed a pair of adoketa "lip-locking," although just briefly. Strangely, this video is titled "Adoketa pairing." If this title is to be believed, is this some sort of mating ritual or precursor to...

    Ivanacara adoketa fighting

Last night I noticed my pair of wild Ivanacara adoketa "lip-locked" in battle. I purchased the fish about 10 months ago and have never witnessed anything more than some occasional light harassment until yesterday. The vast majority of the time they have gotten along peacefully often swimming...

Questions about SA Soft-water Planted Tank Setup

Darrel, thank you for the wonderful scientific explanation. It seems to reinforce my earlier notion of putting the "limiting factor" concept on its head regarding these plants. It doesn't make sense that they'd need high light in poor nutrient/CO2 environment. There is no way for the plants to...

75 gallon Rio Negro blackwater biotope...mostly

20 ppm out of the tap??? I'm speechless ... Most people have tapwater TDS in the 200-400 ppm range. I always thought the TDS of tapwater in Seoul, Korea was particularly low at about 110 ppm. In this case I think you have absolutely no need for an RO/DI system. I'm quite curious though, as to...

Questions about SA Soft-water Planted Tank Setup

Thank you both for your helpful replies :) Darrel, you make a very strong, logical point and others have also mentioned that providing sufficiently strong lighting is the most significant barrier to success with these plants. It does seem to put the concept of limiting growth factors on its...

Questions about SA Soft-water Planted Tank Setup

Darrel, Thank you so much for your detailed answers. When it comes to plants, there is probably no one I respect more on these and other aquatics forums. I am curious as to why so many sites, including aquaticplantscentral, flowgrow.de, plantsalive.co.uk make it sound as if CO2 injection and a...

Questions about SA Soft-water Planted Tank Setup

In the near future I plan to convert one of my 30 gallons into an "Amazon" soft-water planted tank with species like: Cabomba furcata (Red Cabomba) Myriophyllum matogrossense Tonina fluviatus and possibly Syngonanthus manaus I am thinking about using mostly ADA Amazonia over a thin layer of...

75 gallon Rio Negro blackwater biotope...mostly

from my experience, the farther you get from 7, the less accurate pH test kits become - blue can only become so dark, likewise with yellow. However, test kits are more "reliable" in the sense that they aren't affected by poor or damaged diodes, lack of calibration, etc. the tank looks stunning...

    Ivanacara adoketa sexing

this is an old post indeed ... my other male adoketa was extremely aggressive towards this “female” so after one week I took it back to the store and exchanged it for another adoketa that appeared more certain to be a female. the new pair have been living together peacefully since last September...

    Sp papagai / Apistogramma ortegai

beautiful fish and tank :) I love apistogramma and planted tanks. Although the two do not usually fit together "naturally" one way I found to address this problem is to make a riparium with terrestrial plants above the water line :D

You've almost got a complete ecosystem going on there - I'm very jealous. I was also interested in raising tree frogs but my wife would kill me! Any tadpoles yet?

    Ivanacara adoketa tankmates

Actually I'm in Seoul, Korea. There are, perhaps not surprisingly, many Koreans who have a strong interest in rare Apistogramma and importers who cater to this demand. Ivanacara adoketa is a similar species so these are sometimes brought in as well.

    Ivanacara adoketa tankmates

Yea, I definitely think tank size, decorations and individual personality are all factors. If you are lucky and have "friendly" fish then they may get along fine with mates even in smaller quarters. As such, I don't think it's reliable to compare the way fish behave in very different...
