for the story
thanks for your reply Apistt_ed - why complicate things ? - very good point !
i just wanted to keep it interesting but as you say time is an important factor in a successfull spawn - it reminds me of RiC's post titled "how much patience" - that's where i'm at now
coffee in the tank ? - the...
my 5th attempt of breeding aggassizii failed
eggs were gone this morning :(
they lasted about 6 days (a new record !) @26 degrees they would have been wrigglers too i guess - i couldnt see into her cave but she was nipping at the male and rushing back to them every few minutes
now she...
haha ok Konigwolf :)
i wouldn't really flush them, i'd feed them to my oscars instead :)
have you tried asking your lfs to see their suppliers fish list, you will be suprised what is available in australia, the shops dont seem order rare fish ?
most shops in melbourne have no appistos at...
the lovers are about to get flushed down the toilet if they dont breed soon , they are on their 5th attempt atm - getting some spectacular spawning displays though they really give each other a good beating untill its time for dinner then they happily eat together.
they are becoming extremely...
thanks guys, i always assumed fish prefered the substrate to be a similar color to themselves for camoflauge
that aqua soil looks great though (googled it) - nice one blueblue
no worries roach,
they are only on their second attempt at the moment (and i havent got the heart to steal the eggs) but if they pull it off this time i'll let you know :)
i am using very light colored gravel atm but most breeding information advises dark gravel. - why ?
and what are the consequences of light or no gravel ?
thanks !
ok appist_ed, you caught me, i was holding back with the female shot - she isn't very photogenic atm, a bit battered from spawning - i can assure everyone i am keeping an eye on her though - she is pretty rough with him too at egg guarding time :)
hard to get a shot with her fins up
night...
thanks mike
most of the wood fungus is gone now anyway - she's very thorough !
they bred the the second day i got them, so they were still a bit spooked by my presence, that could have been a cause.
now they have realised i am cool they might keep their next batch :)
i am suprised by egg snatching snails too, i bred cacatuoides accidently in a communty tank with snails and all sorts of fish, the female cac had all her tankmates hiding in 1 corner of the tank !
I have also bred peacock gudgeons accidently with snails.
better safe than sorry though...
I have a few pieces of driftwood in my breeding tank setup, 1 pair of aggassizi - the wood came from another established tank with a pleco so ofcourse it was fungus free
the wood now seems to be getting that white "snowed on" (i think it's called fungus) look
my appisto eggs disappeared...
I recently bought a pair of Agassizi's, they in their own 4ft tank with a few plants rocks etc. the day after their arrival the female turned yellow, they did all the tail slapping, chasing each other etc
now 3 days later, the female is almost black and hiding (very well) in a peice of wood...
yeah moving the tankmates out would be an option but my spare tank is only a 2 footer (maybe a bit small for some of my larger fish) but my main concern is raising the fry in a tank with gravel although as Neil suggested i can clean 1 side then the other while mum and fry are on the opposite...
