My experience from Nijssen told me to never put any other fish with them if they are breeding, because they're going to make a nice carnage in the tank.
Breeding pair are beautiful, but very agressive. I called mine Bonny and Clide :P

I now have nearly 50 fry free swimming under the protection of the female. They are real moutbrooder, I saw her taking the brood in her mouth :)

First off, let's me explain the context, because I feel that it has something to do with it. The tank they are in ( a 55 gallons heavily planted tanks ) was plagued blue green algae, so I was making huge water...
My couple has spawned Saturday :D The parents are doing a great job in protection the eggs and the territory. They are nearly alone in a 200 liters tanks, so fries have a good chance to grow up :D
My question is how much times before the fries are free swimming ?

Those magic almond leaves also release a medecine that prevent bacterial infection too. The product"Melafix" by AP is made from extracts of these leaves, by the way. :)

When using powdered medications like levamisole or piperazine , it gives way better results when mixed in food and directly given to the fish ( if they still eat... ) I think you can get piperzine in drug stores too, it's a human anti-worm. This is where I took mine, even if the pharmacist...
So it would be better in terms of breeding and agressivty to keep a single male with 2-3 female in a small tank, say a 20 gallons, then keeping 2 males and 4-5 females in a larger tank, like.. a 55 gallons for exemple ?

Yes, it's ornemental, but do we really need another kind of hybrid in the hobby, with all the "assorted" african ciclids ? IMO, hybrid like that should not be tolerated. There is a difference in selecting physical traits from a fish to enhance it over generations like with discus , guppies or...
Unfortunatly, it seems it is hybrid... What I thought were females are finally males :( I should have checked what kind of fish it was before buying it, but given the cheap price and the " I nvr saw this one" before feeling, I picked them up :(

Another good way to produce soft and acidic water is to use Ro water. They sell it in grocery stores or places where they sell stuff to make your own home-made wine...
Just mix tap water with RO water to get the values you want :)

It seems I have some females with them, but how to be sure it is really a female from this particular species, since I nvr saw any pics of it anywhere... Anyway, looking at the dorsal shape and body coloration, it looks like a female.
