I have a nice pair of adults Chromidotilapia guntheri. They spawned recently and I'm wondering if anyone knows the mouthbrooding time of the eggs/fries. My female is currently holding the eggs/fries 12 days after the spawn and i'm beginning to worry if something isnt wrong here :P...
If I may add, the female's red belly color is surrounded by gold and silver lines instead of the usual black color...
IMO, the Moanda are much more beautiful then the original Matadi form.
They also requiere soft to very soft water to breed, unlike Matadis.

Got the exact same symptoms with mine... :(
I heard they eat a lot of vegetal matters in the wild, so maybe adding some spirulina to their diet would help... It's a guess :(

I spawned mine several time over coarse gravel, so IME it's not a requierement. But I guess you can witness the natural behavior more efficiently with such substrat.
My 2 cents are that breeding is contingent on soft water and good food. Dont feed for a week or 2, then give them good food...

I bought a pair of those really neat beats at the NEC convention auction(Great convention , by the way) and now, they act like the typical Pelvica wanting to spawn: digging, female showing her colors to the male, etc etc...But no spawn yet :(

This is actually quite surprising that you had so great results vs ur BGA using copper, because BGA is actually able to feed from cupper :P In fact, a sign that your tap water contains cupper is when you have dark blue BGA growing with no apparent reason :P

I finaly got the fish ( 2 males and 2 females ) .
They are temporarily housed in a 108 gallons tank and I seem to have a pair formed: 2 of them just hang together without beating each other. I'LL move them in a smaller tank very soon.

You can easily get rid of both phosphates and nitrates by growing floating plants like duck weed or amazon frogbits... They are litteraly nitrate pumps :D

Well, I once had apistos Nijsseni that killed the entire tank before spawning. Everywhere I could find a reference, it told me that they were peacefull and gentle, only being agressive when spawning, like all apistos...
