    Hongsloi Flashing?

Got a short video - his gills look a bit odd to me around the edges?

    Hongsloi Flashing?

Also, I agree with the not looking 'quite right' but I can't for the life of me work out what it might be. He's eating well, chasing the female occasionally (but no aggression), water quality is good, dither fish in the tank too (rummynose and hockeystick pencils). It's reasonably well planted...

    Apistogramma Agassizii female fin wound

Thank you. Anything I should treat the tank with that might help?

    Hongsloi Flashing?

Cheers guys, fins aren't folded all the time but are occasionally. Breathing seems normal I think. I feed frozen food not often live, topped up with the odd bit of granules or something similar. Any recommendations on preventative treatment?

    Hongsloi Flashing?

Hi guys, I've read that flashing can be a sign of parasites etc if frequent - my Hongsloi have been displaying this behaviour recently, but not on a regular basis. The tank is fairly well established now, around 10 weeks or so, fish-in cycle with media from another tank, slowly built up the...

    Apistogramma Agassizii female fin wound

Hi all, This may have been covered somewhere else in the forum (but I can't find it) so I'm creating a new thread for some advice. My female Agassizii is missing the rear half of her tail fin. This has happened in the last day, as yesterday she was fine. I have her and a male in with some...

    Substrate For Planted Apisto Aquarium

I'm using JBL aquabasis topped with a layer of JBL sansibar (river). The tank is still settling in to an extent and this weekend I will be adding more plants. Most of the aquabasis is at the back of the tank between the rocks, which will be the most heavily planted region. There is no substrate...

    Hongsloi family

Amazing! Just got a hongsloi pair myself, any pointers on breeding? I'd be interested to know your water parameters :-)

Mixing dwarf Cichlids - Agassizii and Hongsloi?

60 Litres, photo below. Not the best perspective, I'm afraid. I do have extra wood soaking to add and will be adding more plants this weekend, along with some 'hides'.

Adding female Agassizi to an existing pair?

Great, cheers Mike! Might give it a go this weekend (LFS dependent), will let you know how I get on.

Mixing dwarf Cichlids - Agassizii and Hongsloi?

Does anyone have any experience or advice regarding mixing Agassizii and Hongsloi in a tank? I would expect that the usual rules regarding Dwarf Cichlid aggression apply, but I would like to know if anyone has done this or has any thoughts on it? Cheers!

Adding female Agassizi to an existing pair?

Has anyone had experience adding female(s) to an existing pair of Apistogramma Agassizii? I have an established pair in a mature tank which I don't think are going to end up as a breeding pair and I would like to consider the possibility of adding one or two females. Thanks in advance!

These might help a bit? http://www.bioconlabs.com/nitribactfacts.html These posts relate to salted aquariums but mentions the point I made above and the principal is the same...

With a completely cycled tank (ammonia into nitrite, nitrite into nitrate, nitrate being the end product of the cycle) I would expect to see some nitrates present, assuming that you're feeding as normal. The bacteria replicate quite quickly, I can't remember the exact figures though. When a...

It's only my opinion, but it sounds to me like the bioload may be too heavy. Whilst your tank and filter have had time to mature to cope with 1 fish, it may be struggling with 9. With the tank being empty after the initial ammonia spike there will have been no ammonia/nitrites for the bacteria...

You say 'The tank is running without fish since beginning of September, i have check the setting and i saw the pic of ammonia, nitrite etc. and all setting was at 0 in beginning of actober.' Did you cycle the tank, either by putting in a source of ammonia or fish? Did it previously have fish...
