I'd love for it to be papagei. I spent weeks searching through internet pictures, going through both the cichlid compendiums, and all sorts of books i could find and could only arrive at Apistogramma sp. cruzi (as per pictures from Tom C's website) and even then I wasn't 100% sure.
Hi folks. I need some help with IDing this species. these females came in as contaminants with some inka from a colombian shipment. I managed to get a couple of young males but they died before they matured. Now i have only females and I am searching for males but I need to ID them before going...
Yes, if you do it for the fish and think of money as a byproduct, then it's more rewarding when and if the money comes. :)
It will also allow you to buy expensive grey fish without feeling like you're throwing money down the drain. :)
Thanks Jose and Mike,
Jose: your explanation sounds logical to me. :)
Mike: http://www.riverlandaquatics.com/index.php?art=gallery rightmost column, 4th fish from the top. If you mouse over it, the filename says guacamayo.
Thanks, ginger. I saw diamante and fresa being sold as male and female eremnopyge, respectively, and was quite confused.
Also saw a picture of A.guacamayo in some supplier's website but it was really nondescript - yellow female with no markings. :)
Hi all, I know there was a thread not so long ago but I can't find it anymore. The thread was about supplier names and what the fish actually were.
There's a shipment of A. guacamayo and A. fresa coming in and I wonder what sort of fish these are?
Any help would be great.
In fact, I got my hands on 2 pairs of "juruensis" and my friend noted that they look like cacatuoides with black throats. I wonder what are the differences between schwarzkinn and juruensis?
Thanks for the reply, bilbo. I was also wondering how you manage to get around the problem of fungusing eggs. Even with methylene blue, a large portion of the eggs get fungus. After hatching, it seems the babies aren't really safe, as they keep dying until the free swimming stage.

Thanks, Mike. I noticed that the pictures on the other threads show what looks like lyrate extensions. Is this correct?
Ok, from the looks of it. The mystery is solved. It should be as Mike said - Ap. sp. Kellerri. The phantom fin extensions have become not so phantom in another male. Since...
Hi all, I recall reading a post in a forum (don't remember which one) where the breeder said he always took the female out instead of the male and that his success in raising spawns were fantastic - the males were less jumpy and less likely to eat the eggs.
can anyone confirm this?

Here you go. This is a followup from my post in the Species forum.
I'll try to answer some questions:
1. Do the photos show the fish's head/body shape accurately (as perpendicular to the camera as possible; not head on or tail on shots)?
2. Does it show the fish's finnage accurately...
