Try looking under A. sp. "abacaxis" and also as a sp. "Wilhelmi" - please do not use this name for them.

It is possible to crowd a lot of fish into a small tank but it is not a natural situation. In my experience you will only succeed if the tank is chocked with live plants as they help a lot with water quality. You can find a photo at http://www.dwarfcichlid.com/Apistogramma_steindachneri.php...

The low pH values are those that are found in the wild where rams are collected. Your chance of success in your water might depend on the source of your fish. If they are wild imports I suspect you will be unsuccessful in getting fry. However, if your fish are hobbyist bred it is possible that...

It sounds like you are on the right track. Continue with good feeding and water changes and you should be rewarded with spawning.

This is a wild fish and not an aquarium strain. A. paucisquamis is a highly variable fish and, as seen here, some of them are stunning. Unfortunately it is a hard fish to maintain and there are very few hobby bred fish offered in the US.

I think this is unusual. IN my experience once a Pelvicachromis pair gets free swimming fry they are usually excellent parents. Also, I don't find that Pelvicachromis ripen eggs quickly enough for this to be preparation for another spawn. I assume that she was not just grabbing them and spitting...
This is actually quite common. The conditions we provide our fish are often so good that breeding females will quickly ripen new eggs and spawn again while the fry from the previous spawn are still quite small. You probably have nothing to worry about with the first fry eating the second batch...
Tom,
I think you already got this message in a direct email from me, but, just in case,
Check this page for my probable list www.dwarfcichlid.com/Dwarf_cichlids_for_sale.php This is a list of what I think I will have. Most pairs are around $22 or so but the "abacaxiz" will be more. It will be...
I think you would have the best success with the cacatuoides or agassizii. Both of these species are extensively tank raised which makes them more adaptable to water conditions. If you are getting tank raised strains of either of these they should do fine in water that is soft to medium hard...
Looks the infamous A. sp' "Steel Blue" to me. Here is a link with info. Your friend might have a lot of trouble finding a female.

I do not like bare bottom tanks as I usually think the fish are not as comfortable. The only exception is when I set them up with a layer of 2-3" of oak leaves. This makes an excellent and complex environment but at times you never see fish because they are interacting in the areas between the...
It sounds to me like they are getting ready to spawn. They often lose their yellow and get rather brown or a little greenish in the day or so prior to spawn.

While I can't tell for sure, it looks to me like you might have two females. How old are these fish? If they are getting toward adult, your only hope is that the one is a sleeper male that will develop better colors and finage now that he is away from the dominant fish. However, I think it is...
