Size does seem to impact behavior but a 35 gallon - assuming it is not too tall - should be plenty large.
I've been moving my various species of apisto to larger aquariums and have noticed improved behavor as the area space increases. Sadly this limit my space for aquariums but i've been quite...
I doubt you will have to move them - i have a group in a 65; they have bred several times (though the eggs aren't hatching) - to be honest it is the female who is more aggressive and tend to take charge but overall i have found this species to do little damage to each other.
I forget the name of it but the local petshop had a new type of UV thingy - i don't think it used a traditional lamp persey but the whole unit was quite expensive. I should have paid more attention to it when the owner showed it to me - he said it was a prototype of some sort.
I'm not sure this is always true - my winkelfleck had extended eyes now for about 8 months and given his behavior i expect him to live another 18 to 24 months. Of course you might be correct as one can never tell for sure what the future holds.
However my expectation for longevity has grown at...
Just an fyi i do not share filtration between tanks - there are of course pro/con. The local shop puts in very very strong uv filtration in their shared filtration - no clue how effective it is but that thing is quite powerful (i think vaguely but don't quote me over 100 watt).
Cotton ball (fungus) will occur (and is normal and does not require treatment) if the fishes scrapes himself. If you have hardscape and he gets spooked it is not out of line for him to get a small scratch or scrape.
I don't believe so given the equalness on both side. My male winkelfleck (approx 2 years old) has similar eyes. He has been kept in near blackwater conditions (ec 25-45).
Well that test merely shows the water by itself does not go up in ec due to biological activity spontaneously raising the ec. Right - i mean it is a control of sort.
Ok i started a new test with fresh substrate never used - the ec is 9 @ 75.0; one more post next week. Sadly i did not use the new glasses i had purchased for these experiment but reused the one i got from copenhagen since i had completed the ro water test.
I thought from frank picture even the juvi males will have pattern on the tail fin - there are other traits like the male behavior towards them is different than the other confirmed male. Anyway i guess in 2 or 3 months i'll know for sure ;)
Today a week later the ec was 6 @ 74.1 (i had to re-calibrate the probe when the battery died which probably explains the drop). So in any-event i think that the water by itself did not leach ;) Today or tomorrow I'll restart the test with fresh substrate.
here are a couple of pictures of (i believe) my young female around 1/2 to 3/4 an inch:
The first fish is different than the 2nd - i tried to get a good picture of the tails but they wouldn't sit still - despite my asking very very nicely - instead they wanted to - well i have no clue what they...
