Cacatuoides as they seem to thrive in the moderately hard water we have locally - already set the tank up just finished - was prepping myself for the waiting game of trying to net the male and female out of the community tank but they were both hiding by the heater together and actually swam...
I might just leave it unlit in that case as it won't be for display purposes - other than water changes I don't plan on cleaning the substrate or glass and will leave it to get nice and ugly hopefully for the benefit of any fry :)
Hi all - I am going to set my old 10 gallon up tomorrow as a breeding tank for my cacatuoides and I was wondering about my lighting options - I have a "cool blue moon" night light or can use one of the "bright white" bulbs from my community tank. Other than that I have some very orangey 2700k...
Just did a 50 percent water change after making the decision to cull the other 3 black neons 1 of which in particular was looking quite lumpy which led me to suspect neon tetra disease although my neons are all doing fine. Hope this isn't the start of a drawn out battle against some disease!
Well after two water changes of 5% Britta and 5% tap spread over 2 weeks I have had 2 black neons pass on. Water parameters are unchanged regarding pH and hardness and standard tests remained good so can only assume it is something else in the Britta water that caused the deaths. The first a...
I guess the common advice of frequent small feedings is good if you can be disciplined in not overfeeding (something I struggle with). Also the answer was right under my nose in the form of a turkey baster - I tried this earlier and found it very easy to spread the food around in small doses for...
OK so I having a bit of trouble ensuring my 3 Cacatuoides get a good varied diet without the neon / back skirt and black neon tetras becoming obese! At the moment I have a fairly regular schedule of 2 feeds daily alternating between a couple of pinches of Aquarian flake and NLS Cilchlid pellets...
* Knock through one of the soft eyes on top of the coconut and drain
* whack in vice and drill a 1 inch hole in side of said nut
* cut in half
* scrape out the flesh - think about a health kick and taste some, spit it out and carry on
* be a girl and boil / scrape off fibres or just chuck...
Always good to convert some new buckethead fans :) awesome melodic shredder at times if you like that sort of thing check out stuff like worms for the garden and coats of Claude before plunging into his more jarring "outside" playing ;)
Or something more conservative on notes per second:
Couldn't find any reference to 95 takes the cake but listened to some of his stuff reminds me of local "Bristol pub blues" and a guy in particular called Tommy Allen I think his band was called Trafficker
Now my female juvenile has been in her brooding colours for the last week or so it seems crazy to think I was holding out hope this fish was a female! I don't have another tank to move him to but as long as his dad still tolerates him I will keep him. I'm quite attached actually as I have my...
Everything is going fine now - I think it was as simple as disturbing the substrate that caused the spike. I also failed to mention that I used to use root tabs when the tank was planted and I'm pretty sure that disturbing the sand released not only large amounts of fish waste but also large...
