short answer…Yes
A mate of mine has a 2ft cube set up in his shop with a colony of N brichardi
He had a pile of rocks in the middle and pairs had swarms of fry all around the pile
Spectacular display
You maybe aware…but those not familiar, N brichardi (like multis/similis/Julidichromis) are...

Someone has cropped out the water mark in the image you posted….that's not Good
2 of the 4 images on The Cichlid Room Companion don't look like viejita to me?
Rolo's images are
Same with images on fishbase
Would be nice to have an image that clears up all the misidentification of this species
The Datz image is the best.....IMO
The A viejita I'd like to own.....the photo in this forum best illustrates the difference
This image is on fishbase.org.......this is an image that should be on the front page of this forum

Seems to me there are many hobbyists who can't tell the difference between
macmasteri and viejita
Is it possible to get special permission to post an image of a real A viejita on the cover page of this forum as a reference....99% of goggle images are incorrect identifications
A lot of soft water fish are deemed "hard to keep"…..
Most of the issues stem from NOT keeping them in soft water…and with rams it should also be warm
They will breed in hard water….but eggs are likely to be infertile because egg casing harden before they are fertilised
so parents eat the eggs...
Surely there is some drug lords out there that like fish, who can get their lackies to collect some real viejita
Get them into the hobby
I would love to see a thread with someone posting photos.....who actually have the "real deal"!!!
Happy to provide an opinion
Not taeniatus
Not sacrimontis
Normal kribensis (pulcher)....and not great examples in my opinion(but I like males to have spots in tail)
Sacrimontis have yellow green fins...very dark stripes....
This IS what happens.....particularly with soft water fish
Joe blow measures pH....he then believes its too high
So he adds Fred Bloggs's pH down.....he measures it again...it's ok
He measures tomorrow...high again....so he adds more pH down
And the sarga continues all the time he is increasing...
I think the swearing is unnecessary .....;)
Old school perhaps....???
Do you have any plants in the tank?
If not add a bacterial supplement to cycle your tank....or fish will die of ammonia poisoning
Mike....perhaps you should appreciate that kids read these forums.....???
Pseudocrenilabris are also a hard water species.....not compatible with other species from a water chemistry point of view....a. nijsseni. is an aggressive apisto as well
I believe pH change doesn't kill fish.....it's...
I feed all my fish exclusively NLS pellets for small fish.....and I'm very Happy with results
I don't like flakes because I believe most of the nutrients leach from the flake very quickly....so it needs to be eaten almost instantly
I find the NLS provides all a balanced...
Anyone understand genetics???
I found a lone male brevis (kavala) in a shop I don't normally visit......he had very good colour and strong markings so I bought him....now I've got him home I see he is slightly shorter in the body the the other I have (6 pair) . I understand the gene that creates...
