This makes some sense since the commercial name of the fish was Apistogramma "inka". This gave me the impression, however, that it was Apistogramma baenschi I was buying. It's from a czech breeder, by the way.

I recently purchaced these two apistos, and I don't doubt that I have a male and a female. But which species is it?
I have an idea, but I'm keeping it to myself for now, so that your opinion won't be biased:) The male is around 4 cm and the female only af fraction shorter.

I just thought of C. myrnae as a possibility, without any photo to id from. Off course I wouldn't know anything about the availability of either species in your part of the world.
Coltiger: In this case I would be a bit cautious about id based on a web search...
I agree, Ted. It could be Cryptoheros septemfasciatus, but it could also be C. myrnae. These two species are quite similar, and share as a characteristic a lateral spot.

Do the DNA studies only show the separation of the species or does it also apply to the mixing of these to produce the domestic forms?
