Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had any tips to triggering agassizi to spawn or what I should be looking for if they do. I have a 3 females and one lucky male but nothing happening. When I got the original pair 3 months ago, i thought I saw some fry after 2 weeks but no other sightings so...
Your fish are acting the same as mine, although they may have some territorial issues. I've found that my apistos (same species as yours) don't like to claim a territory with a lot of traffic going though there, and the rasboras/cory's may be causing that. Once they find the apistos find their...

You may want to check out there. They're based out of Gardiner, NY so you may be able to reach them by car with a long weekend drive. Some of my apistos have been shipped from there with high quality. I recommend...
I have fire red agassizis. As for dither fish, I have yet to have a fully raised successful spawning so taking the advice of a more experienced member would be better but I have some guppies floating around and a few bloodfin tetras with no problems.
I have a 13 gal nanocube with 3 female and 1 male apistos. The most important thing i've found is to have very soft and clean water that is slow moving, otherwise they get blown around and have trouble getting food. My pH is around 6-6.2. If you can get access to RO water is makes life much...
Maybe you want to grab some young guppies as a test subject for disease only though since they're idiot-proof to kill. If the problem is really bugging you you can also take some water from the main tank and raise some cheap fish in reduced water and similar filter media in a quarantine tank to...
My uncle recommended me TetraMin Tropical Granules when i got my apistos since they're really small granules (.75 mm) and i could get them at petsmart since the lfs in my area is 40 min away. my apistos can easily eat those and they're about 3/4" and 1.25". hope this helps.
Tetra-min pellets or Topfin flakes in the morning, frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, or mysis at around 5 pm. Sometimes put them on a full live brine shrimp diet when i get the chance to cultivate some.
I tend to use fish and not shrimp because once I set a tank up, moved my fish, and everything but a few killies, the plants, shrimps, and crabs died. I think i got hit by some annoying bacteria... Funny thing though is that the gravel and filter fluffy stuff actually came from a tank I've had...
Maybe some gouramis too. I find their pelvic fin/antennae are very fun to watch when they scan each other and other fish. They also change colors depending on their mood every day. I currently have a pair females in a 10 gal and they've done fine for a year. They're air breathers so an Edge...
Don't rush. Give it a a little more time like 2 weeks, 3 on the safe side. You can use guppies as test subjects and also to accelerate the bacteria growth with their poo after 1 week. If the guppies stay alive at the week 3 mark, then it is safe for other fish. Just feed the guppies to some...
I agree with dave and mike. When I first got my apistos, they were labeled fire red even though many in the tank were various mixes of yellows, red, and blues.
I've found that 78-75 is optimum with bettas because then you get already set harlems so maybe its the same temp gauge for apistos. I usually go for an unbalanced ratio of male to female. They also fight less because they grew up together although there's always that one large one who is just...
