I have no idea who either of the guys order their fish from, but I'm fairly sure that Pete Derkin orders twice a year and he has to have at least a few species that I picked up. Send me a pm with what you would like and I'll talk to him and find out what he has and if he does have some of them...
They are very careful down there. Their invasive species list is longer than their native list. They have a hard enough time with invasive
species I'm sure they don't want some nasty tropical critter bug wiping out even more natives. Didn't mean to go off topic, I just had to throw that in.
No, his name is Pete Novak. Pete Derkin's place is alot bigger( about 3xs). I haven't talked to Mr. Derkin in a while, I'll have to give him a call this week. He orders mostly from Peru and often gets the same old stuff I've been trying to talk him into some Brazilian stuff again.

Sorry Ted I mislead you a bit, it's actually a small breeder/ distributor. Pete is a close friend of the family and for as long as I can remember my dad called his place 'The Fish Store' so it's just out of habit that I end up doing the same. Anyway he lets me pick through his shipments after...
I went to my favorite fish store yesterday and got first pick of the fish fresh out of quarintine. This is what I got: 4 agassizi , 3 cacatuoides, 1 pr inka, 1 pr nijsseni, 3 bitaeniata, 3 eremnopyge and 6 more taeniacara. I also bought 6 oddballs, I don't know what they are yet but I think...
I recently aquired a pair of panduro and noticed that the male also shows a lateral spot at all times, I have heard that the panduro have three forms but can only find info on the 'normal' form and the form with a caudal pattern. Are mine the third form or some kind of mutation?
I am going to test it today I probably will test it on one of my too many borellii fry that I have to be sure. The thing that impressed me the most was the leaves themselves and how long they lasted without breaking down. If indeed they are toxic maybe they are tough enough to withstand a few...
Thanks, I was hoping to get lucky. The thing that prompted the question is the fact that the ph was so low and the leaves still being in the container since september made me wonder if there was some property that made them toxic
Leaf question
I found a container of RO water that I had put a few Rhododendron leaves into months ago when I was experimenting different leaves and had totally forgotten about, anyway I tested the PH and it didn't even register on the test, it's only one of those liquid tests and I really...
I know where I went wrong. I gave a pretty bad description of the set up. There are the two empty tanks, some tubing no control box to run the system. What I was initially thinking was run the intake lines into pvc that is connected to an adjustable flow external pond pump ,which will flow into...
Ted, thanks for the info. I miss worded my post, the system is not in operation with just the two tanks and a jumble of tubing and my intent was to turn one tank into something like a giant canister filter and connect it to my breeding tanks. I was figuring it might save some money on filters...
I have an old water softening system in the basement and was wondering if I could turn it into a central filter system for my tanks? I'm also wondering if it would be a good idea to connect the RO directly to it so when the time comes to top it off after a water change all I'll have to do is...
I never thought about using the ugf itself, I took the ugf from an old cheapo 5 gallon acrylic and made a 12x6 inch box filter and made pouches to fit nicely inside.
Apisto groups/complexes
Can anyone help me with where I can find updated lists of Apisto species groups/complexes?
Sorry, I don't know what is going on with the topic heading. I've tried correcting it several times, but get ready for the fun keeps popping up somehow.
