Although panduro are a very attractive fish they probably would not be the best choice for such a small community tank. They would probably end up spawning in the tank and anything else would probably die. This is just from my experiences with them though.
The steindacheri definitely will not work the get about 4 inches. You will really only be able to get away with a pair of fish in a 10. Something smaller like borellii might better suit your needs.
A 10 is going to be too small for a trio long term, even just for temporary holding you will probably have to cram it with caves and plants. You may want to look into a 20 long which I would say is minimum for a trio and your fish will be more comfortable.
I have a branch that I accidentally broke the smaller branches off of in one tank, I can't wait too see what a whole one will look like. As it is the broken one looks like a root growing into the water as I was hoping it would. A little advice for anyone else that tries it soak the wood for a...
I got a bunch of corkscrew willow branches the other day and was wondering if anyone else has tried using them in their tanks. They are branches that fell from my mom's tree not craft store junk.
judging by the rubrolineata, xingu red lobes and steindachneri and the minimum order I am confident in saying it is apistobob's list a lfs I go to got these from him last year.
Wow a 90 should have been plenty big enough for a pair. How is it decorated as far as plants, driftwood and rocks? Mine were in a 55 and I had both ends heavily planted with a large pile of driftwood in the middle and a pile rocks on either side of the wood. In my case it was probably the...
It sounded logical, but like you said they are commercial names so they could be anything. I did find one picture of the regani alenquer and if it is actually that fish it is a really nice form compared to the typical regani.
Hey Ted, here's a list of apistos from a couple different stores that I regularly buy from: atahualpa, rubrolineata, xingu red lobes, steindachneri, agassizi, cacatuoides, panduro, hongsloi, macmasteri, viejita gold, rio mamore, borellii, inka, bitaeniata and pebas morado. All of these are...
Tetras or pencilfish are good choices. As far as floating plants go you can should be able to get away with your normal lighting, because the get the light before it dissperses through the water. I use watersprite and water lettuce under stock lighting with no problem.
I would say the danios are the problem. I used to use them as dithers for my apistos but found them to be terrible tankmates. They are very aggressive feeders and can be quite nippy when it comes to apistos with longer finnage like cacatuoides.
I was in the same situation a couple years ago and my advice is if you locate some get 2 or 3 the males from my experience are real nasty for such a little fish.
If you like the Nijsseni types there is still Panduro and Inka/Baenschi both very nice fish and not really homicidal. I keep both species in 10 gallons decorated with a couple coconut caves a piece of driftwood with java moss with some watersprite floating at the top and both are pretty happy...
I recently aquired a small group of these guys, they are a bit smaller than I am used to dealing with around 3/4 to 1 inch. I've noticed that a couple of them lose the lateral stripe and show a lateral spot . Is this normal for both sexes or would these be female?
