This is caused by low CO2 levels compared to nutrient and light levels within the tank. The best way to get rid of it permanently is to add CO2. You don't have to add gaseous CO2 though but could use a glutaraldehyde based 'liquid CO2' supplement. However if you don't want to use chemicals...
Well as George who created this tank is a mate, I'm going to stick up for him!
The AGA competition is all about perfection in aquatic 'scapes, not a totally realistic representation of the world. After all many nature aquariums recreate above the water scenery or are representations of them...
The problem is a species is a purely human mechanism for classifying the natural world. In nature there's no such distinction. Some things will cross if they meet in the wild whereas as somethings won't while some things will never meet! And even some things that do meet and hybridise stay as...
Not a problem mate. Expect an e-mail shortly! I have to say I'm not keeping many types of westies at the moment, got back into keeping a few Tanganyikans again, but I'd love to chat about what's around!
I wrote an article about my Benitochromis breeding for the BKA but left before sending it for publication. It's too long to post on here but I could e-mail it to you if you were interested West Africa?
Bad luck Ted but I guess it won't be long before they try again. My Benitochromis finleyi 'Mungo' took 3 goes before they got it right and that was only a brood of 8! Couple more goes and they were churning out the babies!!! Great fish though and I wish I had space/time for more of these...
Whenever I've had fish go like that I think it's been some kind of internal infection and the fish has died despite trying various things like Melafix. I'm sorry I don't know what else to try other than antibiotics which you can't get where I am!
Just a good first gut guess followed up by a quick Google to check my suspicions! It was the seemingly long dorsal section with hard spines and downturned mouth that gave me the clue as to what it might be, but it was just a good guess really.
BTW very nice fish and hope you do great with...
It looks like a male A.norberti to me.
In fact after just googling it I think that picture's from David Soares site here!

He advertises here so you might want to check out his forum here if you want to source some!
I use ceramic media in the bottom tray as coarse mechanical filtration, foam as finer mechanical filtration and then sintered glass media as the biological media. I don't think anything compares to this for the biological stage. I then sometimes use a fine polishing pad if I feel the need and...
Welcome along.
You might want to check out the sellers in the Trading Place. There are loads of sellers there offering great fish, even some Crenicichla at times.
You can just upload the photos as they are to Photobucket or another site and then post them here with the IMG tags at either end. It will then display in the post. As Jeff said he only resizes them so they upload to the host site more rapidly.
That's bascially it. Although the fact that your wild parents aren't genetically unrelated is the crux of the reason why we shouldn't use the terms F1, F2 etc!
I use WC and then F1 etc.
I wouldn't use the term F0 for anything; it's an oxymoron as the F mean offspring so how can you have...
That's how they're used in the hobby but they aren't really the correct uses of the terms.
F stands for Filial which basically means offspring and refers to the offspring from a pairing of two different parents to create and F1 hybrid.
Someone a long time ago (probably while at Uni - not...
I don't really understand the posting question! If you want to start a new thread then you start one like you must have started this one! If you want to post in another thread then you are effectively 'replying' to that thread and use the reply button in the bottom left underneath all the...
