What are the water requirements for breeding hongsloi ?

The Hongsloi I have do not seem to care to much about water but with that being said, I do have soft water from my tap, tds about 70, ph around 6.7-6.9 depending on the day, my GH is around 4, KH about 0.

Male Macmasteri hanging out in cave, is this normal?

Welcome ninebit, are they showing any sign of breeding? What size tank? It does not happen all the time but I have one female Hongsloi that after the male does his job she has no more use for him and she starts hunting the male and I need to remove him once he is done.

    Water Parameters and Stocking

Like said, I would remove the neon's and pleco, if you have trouble breeding because of water issues, you might try rain water mixed with your local water. Good luck and welcome to the sight.

How much do you guys get selling Apisto caucatoides to your LFS?

I agree with it's easy to flood the market, I've done it here where I live, with kribs and Cacatuides. Now when they want 20 I tell them I have10 or 12. The market here was 3.00 per [apisto] fish [not happy], I have been getting 5-$7.00 and they turn around and sell them for $15..

    Need some identification help

If the female is on eggs, most of the time she will not feed till she brings out the fry, I have had female's leave the nest and come out and feed, but most of the time they will not leave the eggs/fry, I do target feed the female and they will poke there nose out and feed [some time's].

    Which Apisto to choose...?

Even with Borellii, the females can be nice with the male on one or more batches and then, she can be hell on wheels and want to kill everything. Do you have another establisher tank for the male if you decide to breed?

    Harem in 120 gallon 4ftx2ft

I would not toss the drift wood, soak it a good strong bleach solution then rinse very well, toss it somewhere to dry for a month or two.

    Runts

Every batch I have of apisto's, kribs or angles, I get runts, I cull the ones that dont make it and move on. As far as if they will produce young of normal size I have no idea.

    Apisto. Cacatuoides fry disaster :(

Welcome to the sight Jose, I use smaller tanks for breeding but I remove the male/all fish from the tank as soon as I see fry brought out, and let the female tend to them. in a tank that small I rarely ever see a pair that is compatible and if you do the next batch of egg's I've seen them do a...
