    Gold form A. erythrura

    I am aware of A. erythrura with either red or blue caudals but not a gold form. Can someone give information on this fish? Is this a wild variant?

    A good example of the rack system that I am talking about can be seen in the picture on pages 24 and 25 of the Jan/Feb issue of Amazonas magazine. The black connectors look like the nylon connectors I've seen available but I would like to know for sure.

    I notice in pictures from European aquarists the aquarium racks are often made of what appears to be aluminum tubing and nylon (zytel) connectors. Does anyone have any information regarding these? What size of aquarium will they support?

    I wish I still had: Apisto guttata, beautiful fish that I collected in an idyllic location A. abacaxis, another great fish I produced in quantity until I got lazy and they died out. A. hoignei and A. inornata because I don't know when I will be able to collect again in Venezuela.

    Brian Colombia is a place that I have been interested in collecting for a few years. However, it seems as though the areas that I want to go are still dangerous. Oliver Lucanus has been there as you know, but he has escorts. Which areas are you currently considering? Tom

    Palm fronds

    I have access to palm frond bases. Soaked in water, they turn the water brown. I thought of using them in my aquariums but we have a toxic algae here that kills fish. I'm wondering if I wet the palm fronds then microwave them if the fronds would then be safe to use. Thoughts?

    Old stainless framed tanks

    I'm amazed as I restore old stainless steel framed tanks that the "tar" used to seat the glass often is still very pliable and sticky. I wonder if our silicone sealed tanks will hold up as long.

    I caught very similar fish when I collected in some morichales in Venezuela. I thought they were A. hoignei.

    Fish on a plane

    My experience is to put your fish in a styro and then in a cardboard box in your checked luggage. I saw a regulation that would allow you to take live fish on your carry-on. Doubt you could get away with that today even if the regs say you can.

    Apistogramma barlowi

    I had a wild pair of A. barlowi that spawned regularly. The female held the fry in her mouth for less than a week. She never did successfully raise any fry. By artificially hatching the eggs I raised lots of fry. Now one of the F1 from her is a very good mother and has raised fry without problems.

    Does anyone use aquarium salt in their apisto tanks? I never have but have recently read that this is recommended even for soft water fish.
