Thayeri can easily eat cardinals but they have left my serpae tetra alone.
Of course there are also hiding places for the serpae. In truth while I really like the 30 or 40 serpae tetra i have the star are the Anostomus ternetzi; but then again i have a 600 gallon aquarium so lots of room.

I'm confused does a male not develop a ventral patch when masquarding? All my f1 males when young showed a dark spot where the female normally has her (what i believe you are calling) a ventral patch. Of course the dominant male then drop this dark patch or perhaps i'm totally misunderstanding...

This should read the cardinals at NOT nearly as bad as those orange monsters. Sure they will go after frys if feasible but as long as the parents keep them low there isn't much of an issue at least in this aquarium. The orange monsters will not only pick off frys that go high but go under drift...
clearly not opal - as for female - it matters not on the colour morph as long as it is an borelli. The opal are specs on the face and most opal i've seen at least domestic have no yellow.
Personally i would remove the keyhole - eventually something sad will happen and stress is well quite stressful on the fishes. I've found in tanks where i never observed any aggression at all one morning someone will end up dead. I never quite understand who attacked who because i never saw any...

Well there was a successful breeding - the cardinals are nearly as bad as those orange monsters and approx 1/3 of 100 gallon floor is not accessible from above so if they keep the young frys in that area the tetra never have a chance to go after them.
But yes i find these larger aquariums not...
One question - the wallaciia is not compatible with water or temperature of the Gymnogeophagus rhabdotus so i presume you will sep them during the winter ?
