I’m planning to get a few Echinodorus plants this summer and try growing them on my balcony—emerse, of course.
Since my balcony faces south and can get quite windy at times, I was thinking of Argentinensis or Palifolius.
Does anyone have experience with growing Echinodorus...
I'm really glad to see that your fish is looking better than in the first picture, and I hope she makes it.
However, Mac and Darrel do have a point. You should at least be aware that if the fish can't manage to avoid each other in your tank, you may only have saved the female for a short time...
If the fish in the second photo really is a male (looks like one, but as Mac said, bad conditioned) it might be the case that the female is trying to animate him to spawn. That sometimes does look like beeing bossy.

Yes, they were wc. I believe only german rams and cacatuoides were regularly available as domestic strains back then. But again, I was a teen then, so I might be wrong.

You know what really annoys me? For every fish species I asked for a male only, I was told that they only sell pairs, even if there weren't any females left in the tank. This is really not understandable to me. Even some (hobbyist-)breeders told me...
For real? In my area in Germany, near Dortmund, I really have problems finding "real" females. Of course, you can get trios at some of the shops, but if I take a closer look at the tanks, I get the impression that someone else must have bought a lot of those before me ;)
