My experience is to put your fish in a styro and then in a cardboard box in your checked luggage. I saw a regulation that would allow you to take live fish on your carry-on. Doubt you could get away with that today even if the regs say you can.
I had a wild pair of A. barlowi that spawned regularly. The female held the fry in her mouth for less than a week. She never did successfully raise any fry. By artificially hatching the eggs I raised lots of fry. Now one of the F1 from her is a very good mother and has raised fry without problems.
Do you know your water parameters? I was under the impression that Arizona has hard alkaline water. Do you use an R/O unit or otherwise treat your water?
I had a problem with bba after changing my aquarium lights. I changed to the 8000K All Glass Aquarium flourescent lights because I liked the color and they are readily available. Gradually all my tanks developed bba. Since the only thing that I had changed were the lights, I went back to the...

These are pictures of my wild Apistos from southern Peru. The first two pictures are A. rubrolineata male and female. The other pictures are A. urteagai I believe. They are much more colorful than the urteagai I have caught previously. These were caught by another collector at a higher...
I have heard for years that we should not over feed our fish with white worms. If we do, it will result in a fatty liver or some other fatty deposit. How do we know this is true? Is there really any evidence or is this a tale that has been passed on through the years?
I am interested in opinions regarding filtering through peat in those fish needing acidic pH. Romer states that peat is detrimental to Apisto aff. piexoto. Have others noted negative effects on other fish? Do we know what may be in the peat after processing?
I did aerate the hatching container. Used the water from the original aquarium. The pH is 6.7 and hardness 50 tds. I did not feed the fry since they still had their yolk sacs and were not yet free swimming.
