Collectors out there, what color of net do you use? On my last collecting trip I used a dark brown net instead of the usual white one thinking it would not scare the fish as much. I'm not convinced this theory worked out. It did make it harder to see the fish in the net among all the litter.
Currently I have A. luelingi, miuá, an unidentified apisto from southern Peru that I think may be an urteagai color morph and an unidentified apisto from a southern tributary of the Rio Heath between Peru and Bolivia. The last two await DNA analysis. The luelingi are old enough to sell, the...
I've collected A. guttata twice. In fact if you look at Ivan Mikolji's web site he has a video of the Rio Morichal Largo at the exact location that I collected. The wild fish is much more stunning than any of the pictures that I have seen published. Ivan confirmed to me the information mixmixi...
Have people found this species to be particularly delicate? Of all the apistos I have kept, I have not found one as eager to die as this one. At first I thought it was water changes that triggered the deaths. But now I change water very slowly and still there is the occasional death. None of my...

As for species 2, I understand your reasoning. I did not have an idea as to...
These are two fish which I collected this past summer. I have an opinion on what they are but would like to hear other opinions.
This first fish was collected in a northern tributary of the Rio Madre de Dios west of Puerto Maldonado. At the site the adult males were around 3 inches long and...
In 1988 I was collecting in a small stream in an agricultural research station on the road east out of Jenaro Herrera on the way to kilometer 14 to try to catch some nijsseni. Out of that small stream I collected agassizi of several different colors. I remember catching the common blue form...
I am aware of the effect of temperature on sex ratios. However, there seems to be some confusion, maybe just in my mind, about whether the temperature effect is when the eggs are laid or the temperature in which the fry are raised. What is the current thought?
The water parameters are pH 4.8 TDS 110 Temp 76º F 24º C . I use RO water only. No mixing with tap water.
Mike, the fish you sent had a huge spawn. Then most died after a water change. Not sure what happened there since none of my other fish were affected. Then the female got a mouth...
