Aquatic Clarity (who has a presence on this forum) is a good vendor (I think he's in WS). David Soares raises many unusual apistos and ships them (from WA state); do a search for him.

I presume that these, Apistogramma cf. cacatuoides Aguaytia, are not "true blue" either, but could they be an intermediary between Dave's and the "blue cac." There seems to be more blue on the body. We got these from Jeff/Aquatic Clarity...
You mentioned an "ugly clay pot"; what about getting a half coconut shells instead? I'm guessing the java moss will attach to it faster than a clay pot.
For cories, more is better. I think at least 6 for the pygmies, as they like to school.
Also, I think for the plecos, more is better also in that they'll have territorial disputes and interact more, so you'll see them more often (than them just hiding all the time).
