Your tank is fine for keeping the vast majority of dwarf cichlids. You water parameters are fine for breeding most of them. I would not worry about a cave. If a pair spawns the female will find a spot on the driftwood she can defend.
The need for magnesium sulfate is a new one. Since your...
The Etia that I had, a long time ago, were shy at first and took a while to settle in. Schooling dithers did not seem to affect them, but sharing space with other cichlids did. I started with a group of six 2" wild fish in a 75 gallon tank. When they never came out, I put in six Hemichromis...
You can find the Repashy foods at www.tedsfishroom.com .....
I do feed the fry brine and paramecium, but I keep Repashy food in with them all day. My camera was out of juice this morning, unfortunately. I made some gel food and then watched the female chew it up and spit it into the crowd of fry.
I posted a video blog of my rams this evening: www.tedsfishroom.com
I am going to prepare a better video about feeding the REpashy food to fry, but there is a clip in this video of fry that are less than 6 hours free-swimming discovering the food and starting to pick at it. But I am out of...
For feeding fry? I use the Community Plus or the Soilent Green, depending upon species. I give the Com. Plus to those that need higher animal protein. You can also mix the formulas if you want.... such as adding some Meat Pie into another to boost the protein... but I have not seen a need to...
New video..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUdMQKXL2vE
I have a batch of blue ram fry just about to become free swimming. I am going to show you that SA dwarf cichlid fry will eat Repashy food.
I do not know about Apistos, but I would like to see some wild Sturisoma festivum again. The true longfin royal farlowella has not been collected for a long time. A recent article I translated by Ingo Seidel states that the collectors have moved to a different area of the country due to...
Here is a more concise breakdown...
The cost for a 2oz packet of food is $8.00.... The cost for a 64 oz packet is $70.00.... Here is how the price per oz and per 1/2 pound (that deli cup) of food compares:
2 oz packet $8 = $4/oz = $2/half pound gel
4 oz packet $12 = $3/oz = $1.5/half pound...
2oz of the formula makes 2 pounds of food. I just measured the weight of one of those molds of food I made in the video (I did not realize that I had a food scale, until I saw it in a cabinet this morning). The 2/3 cup of food I used in the video made about 12 oz of gel. Please understand...
Yes, the price is higher than a lot of other foods, but it is on par with other high quality foods like Xtreme. But the proof is in the results... fish eat this stuff! I do not feed it as a staple diet. I still rely on live foods, but in the tests I have done the Repashy is performing as well...
Hi Everyone... for the past few months I have been testing a new line of fish foods being presented next week by Allen Repashy. If you are into reptiles, especially geckos, you probably recognize the name. These foods are gel foods that I believe will change the way we think about feeding...
Mike... just iPad for the moment, but this weekend we are putting together a PDF file that will be available on the website. The iPad issue has a lot of interactive bells and whistles (like video) that the PDF will not have.
There is a cool article about collecting Apistogramma in Bolivia in the current issue of Aquarium International magazine, currently available for free download to your iPad through the app store (search Aquarium International). You can also visit the magazine's website at...
