    Baensch/Mergus Cichlid Atlas, Vol. 2

Thanks Mike. What English language book would you recommend? The last book I bought was the one by Mayland/Bork

    Apistogramma cacatuoides puffing?

How hard is the water? pH 7.5 should not present a problem for A.cacatuoides, or did you mean rams?

    New profile... A. mendezi

Hi, When I hit the "species profiles" link http://www.forum.apistogramma.com/profiles_menu_home.html my browser comes up with a "page cannot be found error" Is it me?

    Question regarding lifespan

I struggle to keep Rams alive for very long. Even ones that look really healthy do not live long for me :frown: I haven't bought a ram for a long time for this reason. Along with Apistos, Aphyosemions are quite short lived. I have though, got a pair of A.australe (gold) and A.striatum...

    ID please

Amazing the variation on prices of Apistos around the world. Hopefully BlueBlue will spot this and tell you what they pay in Hong Kong

    ID please

This is the shop: http://www.outsideinsideaquatics.co.uk/ I just discovered it recently on my way home from the golf club. Sadly he has none (iniridae) left as I went in to buy some more. He does currently have a really nice pair of Agassizi but no other Apistos today. He did say though...

    ID please

Are they wild fish? I would think so. The dealer got them from a wholesaler, I do not think anyone is breeding them in numbers. If they were, I would expect they would have the correct name.

    ID please

Thanks for the ID, what a great find - I had A.iniridae a long time ago. I must try and get them into a breeding tank. One of my tanks sprung a leak so I need to replace it soon. They cost £10UK for the pair :) That's about 14Euros or $20US.

    ID please

Hi All, I bought these from a nice shop here in Scotland. They were labelled as A.bitaeniata, but they are obviously not that. I think they are something related to A.iniridae but would like a positive ID. I promised the shop I would let them know what they are when I find out. The pics...

    a. borelli?

You have a definite pair in the first pic. Males are blue and have a high dorsal fin. Females stay small and beige, turning yellow in breeding dress. A.borellii are lovely dwarfs.

    ID - cacatuoides female?

It's a strange colour form. It does look like a young male to me. Main thing I spot is the tail forming extensions.

    Nannacara

I think aureocephalus are rare in the UK, don't think I've ever seen them. I'd expect any readily available fish at a low price to be anomala. On difference, I thought anomala males had green scales, aureo' more gold

    N. anomala female?

The smaller fish looks like a male due to the pointed dorsal fin.

    apisto cacatuoides and cory cats?

They will co-habit just fine but Cories are skilled fry eaters!

    "Broadband" from Columbia

Mike, Very noble of you to recognise the error of your ways  I'm sure this is a first though:)

    "Broadband" from Columbia

I thought "cut throat" had a more slender body as it was closely related to pertensis/iniridae ?

    Eliza - females or not?

Mike, What difference did you see between 1 & 2 to differentiate male from female? I "guessed" both were more likely to be female. I've never kept A.eliz' so no real personal experience - just a hunch. Ken.

    New Kribs

Nice fish. Did you get amy males? I can only spot females in your pics.

    Apisto. Cac. and friends

Yes, we call them Peacock Gobies in the UK. These are great fish. My friend has bred them loads of times. They spawn in a floating tube (he uses a piece of narrow PVC (?) tube), the male guards the eggs. Fry are tiny but seem to grow fine on what they can find in the tank and brine shrimp.
