When I had a fish store, circa 1970, I would sometimes get A. steindachneri as "assorted Dwarf Cichlids.
They're kind of large and plain, imo.
I was never happy to see them as I really wanted prettier, as least to me, Apistogramma sp. In lots of 25, they wholesaled for $0.35 each.
The only...
Assuming a "pair" which hasn't spawned in 6 months, I'd separate them for a few weeks and then make another attempt. My experience has been that a male and female A. cacatuoides which have been separated a few weeks will often spawn within days of being brought together.
I'm not an optimist for...
I see that The Wet Spot Tropical Fish currently has the fire red A. agassizi you are looking for. Here is the link:

I've always had good experiences buying from them on line.
Picking through Cardinal Tetras that a LFS in Seattle used to buy in box lots led to my discovery of a couple juvenile unidentified Apistogramma on 2 different occasions.
I ended up with 2 firsts for me.
3 juvies grew out to be a pretty trio of A. pertensis.
On another occasion 2 juvies grew up...
Looks like a pair to me. A nice one.
I opened a fish shop in 1969 and would often order "Assorted Dwarf Cichlids."
I seemed to mainly receive lots of A. bitaeniata at only $0.25 each in lots of 25 and used to be a little disappointed!
Second most frequently received species of Apistogramma was...
Yours are looking more like C. compta as shown on Tom's web page.
Mine were more like C. eigenmenni or C. nigrofasciata.
Your Copella grew to become quite pretty.
I am a big fan of dwarf Sag. subulata but in an Apistogramma breeding set up I'd probably go with more water logged leaves, eg. Indian Almond or Oak leaves.
In this article they describe one of this species' foods as "hop crabs".
Been breeding tropical fish for nearly 60 years but I have never heard of such an animal by this name. What in the heck are "hop crabs"?
I think the plant species which Darrel and others recommended are good choices.
All the Echinodorus species(swords) will grow in very fine sand, 0.8mm-1/32" to 1.6 mm-1/16" particle sizes. This sand is sold at many building supply stores. If I use quartz sand with Echindorus I also use a...
I've raised a batch of about 60 of a Copella species which looked just like your fish. These Copella have a wide range so making an accurate species ID is difficult from a photo. Mine spawned in a 10 gallon bare bottom tank with the top 2cm covered with Riccia. The fry are quite small and need...
You can never go wrong by feeding newly hatched brine shrimp at least once a day with even adult newly acquired Apistos. Offer them live black worms, white worms Grindal worms if you have access to them. Like the guys have said, live and frozen foods should be their main stays. Once the become...
As to suggested prices, I'd offer young but guaranteed correctly sexed pairs for at least $5.00 to $10 more per pair than what http://www.wetspottropicalfish.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2&Itemid=116
lists a given species. They do not guarantee that their "pairs" are pairs.
That doesn't work on any of my PC's using Win 7.
I have checked the boxes and clicked on the little x's but that doesn't delete anything.
I've never encountered a forum format like this new one.
Surely their must be a straight forward way to delete these dead conversations.
I doubt you'll have any problems although for breeding in 20 Longs or smaller I probably would choose only one male.
Otherwise just provide cover and caves for all.
One male A. borelli can manage to service three femaies and contribute to fry care.
The males tend to visit each respective...
I would not keep more than one trio in either tank if you plan to breed them.
I once set up a trio in a 4.5 gal tank and both females were caring for fry while the males sort of supervised the whole affair.
I don't recommend using such a small tank. I just wanted to see what was possible.
A...
Those are very nice A. borelli.
I have had many of the rare and lovely Apistogramma species but I still think A. borelli can be among the best. Look at this old male. He was almost like a Blue Chromis Damsel.
