To get the best books Rusty you will need deep pockets at the end of the month. Ive had mine for years and they have been bought a bit at a time.. The Romer cichlid atlas 1 is the best followed by cichlid atlas 2(A update on species discovered or described since 2004).. Next for me is the DATZ...
Yep, its a case of you get what you pay for. In my opinion its worth the extra to buy a Hanna PH meter, mine measures PH and temp.. The cheaper PH meters are calibrated by a screw and are almost impossible to get anywhere approaching a accurate reading.
I use a cheap TDS meter(Hong kong...
Where in the world are you Brian? im sure i speak for most people and say that where ever you are, T.candidi are not a easy fish to find!! I have a few here in the UK and there are others in Europe maintaining this species. Where are you???
Thanks, my arm was aching in the end, it was a long wait to get a shot.. I got this one and hoped for a better pic, then a friend turned up so i had to stop photographing!!!!! Ill keep trying for a better action shot..
I know its nothing particulary new but these fish facinate me, ive been breeding them seriously for around 12 months and currently have well over 1000 in the fishroom at all ages and sizes. They are prolific spawners and its not unusual to get a clutch of eggs everyday, certainly every two days...
Nice fish and still not overly common. My A.barlowi raised every brood by mouthbrooding and never resorted to standard fry care. My fish were all kept over fine sand.
I hate to start of a sex debate but that last fish looks like a male to me..
Hi all, only just caught up with this very interesting thread.. Ted, is the above a result of the fishes difficulty or a lack of fish in captivity? i would imagine it would be the latter surely? if there were larger numbers supplied to interested breeders im sure we would see more spawnings...
Just a quick update to this thread.. Around 2 months ago i lost all 5 of my adult fish over the space of 5-6 weeks, nothing wrong with the tanks or fish just simply old age, the fish were very large fully grown adults when we received them in April 2010 and they did well to survive a year in...
You have obviously not looked hard enough then!!! why not try the UK based British cichlid association, we have all the UK's top Apistogramma experts on there and there is a ton if information available. Fish are also freely swapped and traded between members, if your looking for Apistogramma...
Just re-read your original post and the water looks ideal with the RO that you use, have you then measured this in the tank after 24 hours and then 48 hours ect? id guess that decor is causing problems..
Also 3 female Apistogramma in a tank that small is not really recomended, id remove two...
Nice tank but setup completely wrong for breeding Apistogramma, you need caves with much smaller entrances and a finer substrate.. If you look at their natural habitat you will see why, they live over sand and fallen leaf litter and hide amongst fallen wood in small shallow streams, this water...
Hi everyone, great news!! at the last British cichlid association convention it was voted in favour of having a cheaper E-subscription as well as the more traditional subscription..
It is now possible to join the BCA as a online member for only £5 per year(Normal subscription was £20 and...
Hi all, its been a very long day today but i am delighted to report that the event was a resounding success!! we had a record attendance with almost 90 people cramming into the hall and enjoying a wonderful and freindly atmosphere. Seats were in short supply and it was jam packed in the lodge...
Everythings ready for tomorrow, Dr Anton Lamboj is flying in today and is being picked up from the airport this afternoon by two committee members who are then heading to Redditch to stay the night in a local hotel.. I wish i was staying overnight!! theres a few of them in the hotel and it would...
