Ive actually seen dwarfs fertilise from outside and its a bit hit and miss.. Most of the time it does result in a successful spawning but if the distance between eggs and cave entrance is to great it may well effect fertility.
This is my favourite video ive ever taken.. I felt really lucky...
Hi Slimbolen, there are no secrets in my fishroom and i freely share info with fellow hobbiests..
The main "secret" is simple, water changes and plenty of them!
The breeding fish are setup on a 18 tank rack, each tank measures 24x12x12 and holds around 50 litres of water after...
If you go into your user profile you can add where your from so that people can easily see.. Its easier to answer questions about sourcing fish if we know where you are, i for example have some very nice white gold cacs at the moment but am in the UK..
Really excited today, the Congochromis finally gave me freeswimming fry and a good number too...Id guess around 60-80 fry are freeswimming from this morning, the parents are still pretty drab in broodcare and have kept the fry towards the back or middle hence the crummy pics.
This is a species...
Forgive the weird layout of the following threads, they were posted elsewhere while Apisto.com was offline.. Now its back so ill simply copy and paste the threads across here..

Not quite freeswimming yet but the female made a rare apperance outside of her spawning cave...
Wow, i thought id lost you guys!! been checking back several times per day to see where my favourite forum had gone!!
Thanks for the hard work Ted, the new forum looks great and im sure will be a improvement. Keep up the hard work, its very much appreciated by the dwarf cichlid community.
Hi all, auction booking in is now taking place and anyone in the UK is welcome to attend the British cichlid association convention. 150 lots returned already and plenty more due to be returned, this auctions going to be a big one, already some very tasty and desirable fish have been entered...
My Dicrossus went freeswimming this morning, i spent a pleasant hour watching and photographing them and am really enjoying this spawn, lovely little fish and unfortunately very under rated..
Hi all, this fish is a sole contaminant of a recent batch of Dicrossus i ordered from Botoga, Columbia.. Ive enclosed a few pics of the young fish(aprox 20mm) and done a bit of my own research, Apistogramma sp 'white seam' seems to be the closest match i can find and the location seems to fit...
Ha ha, its not a war although i do tend to upset a few people by standing up for what i believe in.. No my intention was to get more actual keepers of Dicrossus involved in the discussion, what im looking for is someone out there who has had dicrossus change sex..
It really bugs me that...
Hi All, me again.. Ive really stoked the Dicrossus fires over on the BCA forum with a debate on whether Dicrossus can change sex!! The thread can be found here http://www.britishcichlid.org.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1604 and id love it if a few of you more experienced dwarf cichlid hobbiests...
Heres one of my all time favourite Apistogrammas, A.baenschi..
I have several females and only one male, luckily for him hes being rotated between all three females and its only taking a week or so before he spawns with each in turn, i have 4 broods of fry of varying sizes/ages and this is...
Nice pics guys, your making me jealous with the Maculata..
My Filamentosus spawned several days ago and i managed a few pics..
Im really enjoying this thread, keep up the good work.
Ive had these fish several times but unfortunately never bred them, i aim to try again when i find them available!
They are blackwater species, drop the PH below 6, ideally around 5 and keep the water nice and soft.. Add in some tannins to stain the water brown and use a sand substrate with...
Heres a few pics taken today in the fishroom, there are more to follow but several nice spawns brought out over the last few days.
A.sp 'Kelleri' The large broods still doing well...
Albino Pelvicachromis pulcher, kindly given to me by Darren..Nice fish.
Tons of A.baenschi being...
Hi guys, i was just wondering if there are many active moderators or Admin on the forum, the Apistogramma section is heavily infested by Spam and has been for several hours. Its damaging some really nice threads and could do with removing please..
The spammers name is zhengwei0
Many...
My original pair have spawned twice successfully, the first yeiled 9 fry(All male) the second 12 but only 3 survived, my good friend Andrew wood cleared all his Apistos out of his fishroom several weeks ago and i managed to aquire his pair of wild kelleri, these are actually smaller than my...
Im guessing your fairly new to keeping Apistos??
Thats fine, the male is usually the more dominant fish over the females until they breed, then the females will turn bright yellow and defend their own little hiding place with great ferocity!! The males are quite often pushed to the back of...
