Hi Steve,
Yes Mike is correct... Not A sp.Branco(A226) as ive had these before and they are much more slender than the fish you have there (A sp.Branco pics below for comparison).
The fish came into the UK as A pulchra via Glasers quite some time ago.
Good luck with the young...
Well Tom those young have grown nicely and look fully mature in just 6 months.
Just shows the beneficial effects on growth rates when raising young in larger tanks with regular water changes.
I only have males left now and as yours are now"ready to leave home"i think a few females could be...
I really do wish that there was definitive meaning as to what criteria are met to see if a species is new or not.
At the moment it seems possible that species can be defined,or not, on the toss of a coin OR on which side of the bed an author/enthusiast rose from on that particular morning.
We...
What do we then call other newly collected undescribed species from the same areas? There are without doubt other fish in these areas awaiting collection.
A.sp."Kelleri" has been known as such for quite some time now and i see no reason to change.
Why not call the Rio Jutai fish A.sp."Tino"...
A few pics of the second species Tom and i collected in the Rio Napo drainage that were initially called Apisto.sp.Napo 2. These are again quite young fish and males unusually show broken lateral band most of the time. Do your specimens show this Tom?
Any ideas what these may be?
Mark...
Francisco (Stingray Aquarium)was calling them A.sp.Kelleri when we were out there....
This name"Diamond Face" is just Mimbons trade name. In my opinion we should be using the name A.sp.Kelleri or A.cf.sp.Kelleri.
Well thats excellent news Mark.... Just what i was waiting to hear as it clearly justifies the thoughts of the close relationship with A.barlowi
Mark...
Hi,
I have also had similar experiences with A.barlowi.... Fine sand and my pairs were mouthbrooding, gravel and they didnt.
However the introduction of dither fish to the gravel set-up induced mouthbrooding behaviour.
Mark...
Nice to see you here again....
Ive just bought Coca Cola at 20p in Peru whilst its £1.20 in the UK....
Youre talking Asian prices not UK/Europe.....
Wilhelms Super Red Elizas dont cost that much over here in Europe.
Mark...
Tom,
Believe it or not mine have coloured up particularly well... All the abdominal stripes are very red in colour (Like Alto Tapiche) and caudal quite orange.
Not bred them yet though.... Great pics Tom, Well done mate.
Talking of A.sp."Alto Tapiche", I think its a Regani...
I hope you havnt made a mistake with your price Alex....
There are alot more Elizabethae knocking around the UK of late and even if wild you cant justify £250 per pair.
Wilds are only selling at £50-£60 per pair tops....
Mark...
Ive also had mixed shipments of A.iniridae and A.sp.Kurzlappen. A species very closely related to A.sp.Breitbinden but without the extended dorsal fin lappets....
Mark...
Rolo, I can assure you that these fish are not A.barlowi and the fish were not mixed with A barlowi at the Peruvian exporters.
Whilst in Peru TomC and myself were at the exporters (Who is a friend) and the fish (Only 100 pairs) were placed in 3 tanks away from all the other Apistos.
The females...
A few pics of one of my older sub adult females showing the development of orange tipped lyretail(Im sure its not a mirage Tom!!!). Is this enough to confirm that this species may indeed be A.sp.Kelleri bearing in mind that right side tributaries of the middle/lower Rio Jutai are not that...
Im pleased Rolo posted this pic of the Mimbon fish.... This species seems to be very variable in terms of red facial markings. Only 1 male from 5 that i recently picked up whilst in Peru (from the same collector/Rio Jutai import)showed these very red markings and he is no longer with us, very...
