There are quite a few species available in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. Availability varies a bit depending on what they get in from the importers or the local breeders. Where are you based?
It can happen with some of the spawns that the female decides to eat them, either because of inexperience, or maybe because she felt it wasn't safe enough for the fry. But if the pair has spawned, they will spawn again.
Maybe add some additional decorations to make her feel moe secure?
I don't think extra aeration or filtration is really necessary if there is sufficient surface movement and filtration. If you want to keep the fry in the same tank as the parents after the first couple of weeks you want to think about increasing the water changes then. because of the larger...
You could perhaps fit 3-4 females an two males of one species into a tank that size. You may have to rearrange the decor a couple of times to find a setup where the territories are evenly distributed throughout the tank.
I'd throw in a few pieces of floating pipe to start with to provide...
In my experience there is no need to deviate from your normal water changing schedule. Just avoid having a strong current around the breeding site when adding the fresh water.
Same goes for the lighting, if they are used to a certain pattern there, no need to change it.
Start hatching some brine...
I wouldn't have more than two pairs or maybe trios in the tank as there will already be competition for space from the other fish in the tank.
With trios it will get more tricky with territories, unless you find a way to persuade each apisto species to settle in one side of the tank. Maybe a...
Yep, plants will take up the majority of the nutrients (provided there is enough light and CO2). You can always check with a TDS or conductivity meter (they are quite cheap).
Sand should be fine enough for the fish to pick up, munch on and spit out/pass out through the gills. Anything that fits...

The soil will help to keep the pH down but it will also leach nutrients into the water, raising the conductivity - how much, I am not sure, it should be ok for for most soft water species as many people seem to have success using that type of soil. You will just have to keep areas of...
You picked a species there that is not easy to keep. They require really soft, low TDS and clean water. If you don't have that much experience with soft water fish, I would probably pick another species for the tank. They are really expensive here as well...
The Nannacara species are similar...
I would change to new media and also scrub the tank with vinegar or citric acid. Those alkaline salts, especially the carbonates can be very persistent and affect your pH and conductivity for a long time. Better to get it right from the start rather than having to battle it afterwards.
As long...
I have never stored BBS, so I don't know how it affects their nutritional value.
I have 3 small jars going in parallel, harvesting and restocking one each time I feed. This means that the BBS I feed are about 36h old, which seems to work well for the brand I use. I only charge each jar with the...
I feed freshly hatched BBS from the start and mix in crushed flake after the first few weeks. This usually makes the transfer to dried foods easy. When they grow up I feed mainly dried foods (mix various good quality flake and micro pellets) with BBS or other live food a few times a week. That...
To make sure the fry get good access to the food, you can use a syringe or pipette to squirt the BBS right into the area where the fry are.
I also rinse the BBS with tank water before use to avoid affecting the conductivity/TDS
I usually only keep a pair with a few pencil fish per tank, but my tanks only have a 2ft x 1ft footprint. Rule of thumb is 1 sqft per female and in addition to that about 2sqft per male with sufficient hiding places and decorations to break line of sight. that is my tanks could hold a maximum of...
Sometimes a larger water change, done when a low pressure system moves through, can trigger spawning.
I have also had the occasional success when lowering the water level by 50%, raising the temperature a bit, leaving it for a few days, then topping up with slightly cooler water (and setting the...
You could also try to reduce the duration of the lighting period, 13 hours is quite long, most higher tech setups would run around 8 hours or so.
You may also need to check your macro nutrient levels and possibly trace elements. Stopping to fertilise is not always a good option as that can also...
I have found borellii fry to be fairly slow growing. BBS seems best to push them along. Raising the temperature may also help.
I feed powdered flake when they are still smallish and crushed flake and crushed micro pellets later together with the BBS. But, yeah, they are not the fastest growers
