They look lovely, a store here (Ecuador) is meant to be getting some tetras soon that they are calling "Tetra zaramizina", I am wondering if they are the same? They possibly come from a location close to that of the Amaya pencilfish as these will arrive in the same shipment, though I can't be sure. This is a screen shot taken from the video they sent on the WhatsApp group, obviously these fish are in far from ideal conditions and I expect would colour up more when established.

I think they are the same thing. Btw light level makes a big different. I have a 2nd group in a shaded aquarium and they are much more pale - they behave pretty much the same - so far they are behaving fairly gently and calm though if startled they will hide in the bottom and i think hiding places should be provided (i.e, i wouldln't keep them in a bare tank); I did something to startled them the other day and all 8 of them dashed to the bottom to hide - but now they have gotten used to me mingling with the plants and doing water changes they mostly just ignore me and stay high - the more comfortable they are the higher they seem to go.

A couple of other interesting tetra I have; not great pictures:

These guys seem to spend a fair amount of time fighting and they spread out across the aquarium - i have two groups of 8ish as they are horribly expensive. I have one group in a 10 with a soft dream they will one day decide to breed - the other is in a 29 with my a. wolli. They are a very clam fish when not chasing each other but they are very aggressive with food and i worry they might be naughty if frys in which case i would have to move them. Another way of phrasing that i have not kept them with a fish that has bred.

They are rather unique and in my opinion a decent looking quite fish - though if startled they will pale out rather quickly.

And i have some of these in one aquarium; i recommended them to someone which was probably a mistake (sorry) as they are a horrible fish to keep with frys. They will swarm anything that move - unlike the above tetra they never stop moving and love to stay mostly in a large group. They have a bit of a funny swim - i think they are missing a fin ;)

Other than the fry bit they are kind of fun - i have one group in a 40b.

You certainly manage to get some interesting fish! I am sure I have seen those two in the Oliver Lucanus tetra videos, but some time ago and I can’t remember what species they are…

The black/red: h. eilyos
The black/white: h. negodagua

Going back to those yurmies orang tetra; now that it has been another week i ahve two comments:
the plus is they now mostly hang near the top and the red in their tail has significantly intensified - the negative is they eat anything and everything they can get ahold of - the only tetra i have worse than them in terms of aggressive food hunting are the h. negodagua which are even more swarmy and aggressive at eating as a pack (they school tighter).

I do prefer the morse code and the tucano both being less active and a bit more passive. One could argue with some success they are a bit too passive and something with a little more gutso but certainly less than the ones above would be a good mix - or maybe they need a bit of steriod to get their engines running.
-
The ones in the 65 are a bit more interesting - they hate being alone so they hang out on the side with the a. ipiranga while nearly 1/2 of the aquarium remains empty ;)
(it is 48x16). There is some sort of invisible line down that aquarium where only the 2nd batch of f1 hang out (they are a lot smaller and there are only 2 or 3 of them). Oh and a few ottos. Oh well.... if only our fishes knew english we could understnad why no one likes 1/2 the aquarium.

Anyway while i think the yurmies are lovely i will probably not aquire more and focus more on ruby tetra and morse code. The only real concern with the ruby is that some of the larger dwarf cichild can probably eat them if given a mind to chase em.

I would have preferred the morse codes or the Trochilocharax, but as they never arrived I am tempted to get some of the orange ones IF they turn up here (supposed to next week…). I have ruby tetras with my A. bitaeniata, they haven’t been eaten…

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
