Thank you for the advice! I was afraid to muck around the tank and upset the female, she hangs out in the most densely planted part that I have a hard time see babies but she's super protective of that spot so I assume she's defending protecting some young.

I just got an email response from Wet Spot confirming if I wanna order another pair, the Red necks are Macs.
The female Hongsloi are yellow, they get more brilliant when the male's around, but drab by comparison.
Just wanted to make sure my reading comprehension was right.
They are really knowledgable. I assume these are line bread - what do the wild ones look like?
It's a community tank so I'm not planning on breeding them but if they do have fry, I'll try to keep them and give them to friends and GWAPA/CCA members. The Hongsloi I have are also doing the mating dance so who knows.

Haha! They were sold to me as Viejita red necks - I put the fish on here and was corrected that it's really a macmasteri. Regardless, it's beautiful.
Quick question: does Wet Spot have both macmasteri and viejita rednecks?
If I get another pair I may specify macmasteri - they just don't list...
She's a female because she displayed for the male constantly. I thought they were both males when I first got them because they were my first batch of Apistos - I have been told line bread females display as much color as the males.

No, it's bumping or getting stuck, nose first in a bunch of moss on a branch. He's not flashing - I've seen him do that when the ich broke out. It became obvious when he couldn't locate food that's floating in the water (unless I hold it right in front of his face).
The thing is I think he's blind in both eyes now, he's bumping into things and swimming like he's blind - it's most noticeable when I feed because he can't locate food.
I've looked at his other eye (not swollen one) and I can't tell there's anything wrong.
