I have 12 cacatuoides in a 77 gal and when i got home after work tonight i noticed in was very quiet in the tank. To quiet for my taste... I already have one female that spawed (i hope) in a hollow plastic log 3 days ago and another that seems to have done the same in an overtuned claypot...
Another thing you can look at are the pectoral fins. Females tend to have a dark black stripe on those fins while the males tend to have clear fins.
However that is not always true. Someone told me that weaker males tend to take on female-like colors to avoid trouble with dominant males...

i had my heart set on having a community tank (77gal) with a pair of angels... could i keep 2 trios of apistos in there wtih them? it's a 48X24X16 tank si if apistos require 3 ft of territory per trio i could in theory have 2 right?

i was wondering if it is possible to mix and raise together apistos of differents species... I have 19 juvenils cacatuoides in a 20 gal and i'd like to get maybe juveniles of 2 others apistos and raise them with those i have...
