If it were you, what would you do?

Your "female" looks more like a small A. Bitaeniata male to me.

    Apistos from French Guyana?

Sorry, I was not really questioning the status of the territory. Reading my post again, I realize I wasn,t very clear about my question. It was really this sentence I´m wondering about: "the “import” of fish from these places is no more difficult that carrying fish across borders in Europe."...

    Apistos from French Guyana?

I was just reading the comments from During in this article in "Aquarium International". He mentions that since france are considering former colonys actually as parts of EU, the imports of fishes to Europe is very simple. See the quote below: "European Jungle – Watching Apistogramma gossei...

    A. borellii yellowhead what A-number

Just keep in mind that the A.Borellii is a highly polychromatic species. It´s not that easy to apply the A-numbers for the numerous colorations. The comments in DATZ "South american dwarfcichlids" refering the A-numbers of A. Borellii (A101-105) highlights this as well: "So far it´s not...

    Apistogramma sp 'White seam' ???????

Here´s a poor picture of the little fellow. Normally he have a much more greyish colour, than shown on this photo. I think he was a bit excited about the live artemia I used to get him closer to the front glass :) http://i730.photobucket.com/albums/ww310/pelledesu/whiteseam/whiteseam.jpg

    Apistogramma sp 'White seam' ???????

I found one as well! I was strolling through the LFS a couple of days ago, when I spotted a strange little fish among the D. filamentosus in a slightly over crowded tank. Everytime I see a tank of wild caught dicrossus in a shop, I always remember this thread! When I looked closer at the tiny...

    A."steel blue"

Here´s a good clip on a pair of Steel blue´s guarding their fry´s. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSU3KyV_rPA As you can see, the female look just like any other apisto female. No problem to identify her. By the way Darrel, all the photos in your pdf document are actually showing...

    Apistogramma cf. commbra

I have had this species since I bought a group back in 2003. It´s a very small species. Without any clear sexual diformism. The males are very similar to the females in shape and colour. I would say that they are not that easy to breed. Can not be compared to borellii and cacatuoides for...

    Life Expectancy

You´re right, haven´t thought about that. Borellii is really an "odd fellow" in the Apisto family in many aspects.

    Life Expectancy

I agree with you Mike. The conditions for my aging Borellii female was exactly like that. She was alone in a 50 litre tank with some guppy as company for the major part of her life. No spawning, regular feeding and low density of fish. She was the last remaining of a very nice yellowhead...

    Life Expectancy

My oldest apisto ever, was a Borellii female that reached the age of eight years! Definately an extreme, since the average lifespan of my apistos would be about two years.

    New to me

I just have one male Commbrae in one of my tanks, but he is not as colorful as the male in your picture. You wrote that they are large compared to Regani group species. What is the size of your male? Commbrae is a small species, the males are at max 6 cm lenght. At least the ones I have had in...
