Been going along the last month hoping this little guy was going to be a little gal since I lost the mum :( , But looking at it today I'm pretty darn sure its a boy. Anybody agree or disagree?
Second pic really shows why, colour through the dorsal and forward dorsal rays seem to becoming...
I can't put any floating plants in that area as one thing I forgot to mention is its right at the filter output (overhead trickle, I don't know if that makes any difference). So any plants put there would be just pushed away. I guess I could move the coconut shell slightly and plant some taller...
Gwendal, as part of having a wife that encourages my fish keeping I have to allow her choice in fish in our community tanks. On the flip side she did ok the purchase of two pair of macmasteri last Friday out of general bill money :) (but only because their her favorite type lol)
Thanks for the input merlin. While she does show some signs of brood colours while doing this activity whenever she swims towards the male all her dark colour washes out?
Sitting looking the tank my A. nijsseni are in tonight and noticed the female doing something strange for 5-10 minutes at a time she will come out of her cave swim up to the surface maybe darting at a few things then back to her cave then repeat. After this goes on for some time she takes a...
@bseitz, macmasteri are a species I am unfamiliar with as well. Getting Apistogramma in Australia isn't easy, getting them in Tasmania is MUCH harder. Since they are all in a 2x1' tank at the moment I think I will separate the smallest fish, either way male or female a 2x1 isn't big enough for...
bseitz, I was thinking male as well due to the rich colour for its size, but with all the yellow around the chest it made me think female. So still confused, glad to know the other three are probably correct though.
Linus its just a store bought "background on a roll". I do have a 3' tank with...
I picked up 4 fish today that I had been waiting to come in for some time. They were on the suppliers list a A. viejita (Red Neck) which after a little research I knew should be macmasteri when I confirmed the order.
Here they are
The first is the dominant fish, fairly sure its male
Next...
8 Week old A. trifasciata fry, single surviving fish from a community tank spawn. It's now at the stage it comes out from hiding at least 1/2 the period that lights are on. Still dwarfed by neons though.
It Depends. Do you want to make it a community or a breeding tank? A community I'd add maybe a small bristlenose plec and a trio of cories? As a breeder seperate the cacatuoides and Steel blues to different tanks.
