Recently, i am using Erythromycine to treat FishMB in my
40" Apistos tank. Are there some sharings on how to optimize
the use of this medicine (e.g. for bathing, or mixing it with
food in diet)? In addition, are there some good recommendations
for the treatment of FishMB in Apistos? Please advise. Thanks.

is MB mycobacteria ? or TB

if so no effective treatment proven to work in fish , old adage was cull and hope it doesn't affect others
some papers written that suggest probability of 50% of hobby fish are infected with mycobacterium

very difficult to prove requires spleen culture or demonstration of the organism on stained histology mounts/smears of tissue

cliincial signs are quite vague and wide ranging so mimic other disease

erythromycin is amongst a number of drugs that has been suggested and not clinically proven to be effective
in people i believe thy use iodine to help break down the granulation that the organism cause's and kind of hides in

erythromycin is usually sugested to be given as injections or in feed at 100mgs/kg for 10 days
some possible problems with palatability

Thanks Andrew for your advice and sharings.
Yes, FishMB is the abbreviation adopted by Gerald
Bassleer in his book "The New Illustrated Guide to
Fish Diseases" for Fish MycoBacterium, also known as
Fish Tuberculosis.
In his book, he recommends a bath of Erythromycine
with 2g/100liter for 2 days, and repeat after a
week for three consecutive weeks. I myself try it
but the result does not look too good. Instead, once i
mixed a 250mg powder of Ery. with a small cup of bbs (20ml)
for feeding... It seemed to be more effective as some fish had obviously looked healthier after feeding for a week... anyhow, i would like
to see if there are other good methods for dealing with this
big disease for apistos. The worst thing with this disease is, even if a fish looks good when we buy it from a retailer, it may have already been
infected with FishMB as the fish could look good for a month or two
even after it has been infected!!

Hope to learn more about the solution for this problem/disease
from all fellows here.

I had some tetras that were confirmed to have "fish TB". They went to the lab at Oregon State University and were examined by Dr. Micheal Kent(center director for fish disease research at OSU).

I wish I still had the email correspondence that we had, he sent me a lot of info, and an article that he wrote on the subject. A computer crash wiped out all that I had from him on the subject.

Some interesting reading on the subject.

Sorry,

Lost all in the computer crash, Dr. Kent did tell me the article he sent me was going to be published soon. I'll look again, on another search at the OSU website.
