propagating Java Ferns

I have a Java Fern that just lost one of it's older leaves. There are 2 or 3 small plantlets with little roots growing from the edge of this leaf.

What can I do to encourage these plantlets to develope?
Should I just trim them off the leaf and let them float?
Or should I try to root them in the gravel or on driftwood?

Thanks,
Michael

I would tie it to some wood or a rock.

When mine become detached, sometimes I catch them and attach them to something else, and sometimes they just drift around for awhile. Either way they keep growing.
